Warning issued as popular beach turns PURPLE: Public told to avoid the area

The audience is told to avoid a popular beach in Lancashire that became purple after a suspected oil slick.

The white sandy beach in Half Moon Bay in Heysham played a purple/blue color, so that several authorities give a warning to families who want to spend time through the sea on the last days of the half -term.

The Lancaster city council wrote: 'We are aware of what looks like an oil slick on the beach in Half Moon Bay in Heysham and currently work together with other agencies to investigate and tackle the incident.

“Avoid the area while cleaning takes place.”

The council and the police of the Council and Lancaster have said that an investigation into the 'pollution incident' has started.

They also told the public to avoid the beach and stay away from visible oil.

The police of Lancaster Area wrote: “Keep in mind that the Lancaster city council, together with other agencies, is currently dealing with what looks like an oil leak on the beach in Half Moon Bay in Heysham.”

The Lancaster city council also released a poster, which said: 'Public notification. Caution. There has been a pollution incident that influences the beaches and water in this area. Responsible authorities are aware and investigate this incident.

'Our advice is to avoid the beach until further notice, because remaining contamination can still be present. Avoid all contact with visible oil/tar on the beach and in the water.

“Report every new pollution found to the Lancaster city council on 01524 582000.”

No information has been released about the cause of the oil slick.
