A British man left behind with life-changing injuries after a 'unprecedented' attack while he is on holiday in Spain.
Retired carpenter Marshall Latham was beaten when he was walked back to his apartment in Fuertevenura on December 10 last year.
After he had beaten, Latham hit his head on the ground and became unconscious.
Doctors have warned that the 68-year-old, Van Nantwich, Cheshire, has a traumatic brain injury that he will probably not recover and perhaps never 'walk or talk' again.
After he had been transferred to a hospital in Gran Canaria, he had removed part of his skull, a tracheotomy, a drain on his brain to relieve the pressure and he suffered pneumonia twice.
A British man said he was held when he tried on board a flight to Glasgow, was arrested about the incident.
The foreign and Commonwealth Office has confirmed that it supports the Latham family.
Friend Neil Cooper, who set up a GoFundMe campaign for Latham, said: 'He still fights despite the fact that we, not once, but twice, have to be told that we have to go and say goodbye because the medical staff is not Thought he would do that, go through the night. '

He added: 'We want to bring the Marsh attacker to justice and although this will not change his medical situation, it will enable his friends and family to know that the person who did this will face the consequences of his actions must see.
“Marsh did not ask for this, he certainly did not earn this and it was just a case that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, which made him in this situation.”

The police in Fuertevenura who made an arrest could not be reached early this morning and it is not clear whether the suspect was sent back in prison pending a continuous criminal investigation or released on conditional bail.
But the brother -in -law of Latham, Jim Casey, has revealed that the man was arrested in a plane while trying to fly back to Glasgow after he was thrown out of a bar the same night as the attack.
The holiday attack took place on December 10 last year, but the horrible injuries that Mr. Latham sustained have just emerged.
The GoFundMe occupation, called 'Help Us Get Justice for Marsh', says: 'Marsh was involved in a non -laid out attack in Caleta, Fuertevenura, during the holidays in the Canary Islands.
“He went back to his apartment after a few drinks with his friends and was beaten out of nowhere by someone he didn't know.
'This punch resulted in swamp that fell and his head hit hard on the concrete floor. Marsh was beaten unconscious and an ambulance was called.
'Marsh went to the hospital in Puerto del Rosario and this is where he was intubated, ventilated and underwent a CT scan that demonstrated that he had two skull fractures and a bleeding on his brain, a very serious injury that required immediate surgical intervention.

'However, the hospital in Fuerteventura is not equipped for traumatic cases, so this swamp was transferred via the air ambulance to the Insular Hospital in Gran Canaria.
'The surgeons in both hospitals were surprised that he survived the flight because his injuries were so serious.
'Marsh underwent an operation that led to 14 cm from his skull being removed to decompcrime that had built up on his brain. He remained anesthetized, on a fan and was transferred to the intensive care unit for further monitoring.
'He still fights, even though we are not told once, but twice that we have to go and say goodbye, because the medical staff did not think he would get through the night.
'Unfortunately, when Marsh's sedation was eliminated, he did not wake up from a short opening of his eyes and small movements of his limbs.
'Marsh has further X-rays, CT scans, an MRI scan, blood test and it is now confirmed that he unfortunately has a traumatic brain injury and the opportunities that he will recover are very unlikely. Marsh will never walk or talk again.
“He needs around the clock because of his injuries.
'Marsh is currently still in the hospital in Gran Canaria and we hope to be able to bring him back to the UK as soon as he is stable enough to fly.
'His family and friends started this GoFundme to help support his legal costs, because his travel insurance does not cover this. We are busy appointing a Spanish lawyer and because of the nature of his case this will be very expensive.
'Marsh is a very popular character in both Nantwich in Cheshire, where he lives and in Fuertevenura, where he spent many of the winter months on holiday with his partner Lynn.
'Many people have been in contact to ask how they can help and at the moment this is the best way you can show your support.
'We want to bring Marsh's attacker to justice and although this will not change his medical situation, it will enable his friends and family to know that the person who did this must face the consequences of his actions.

The online appeal has currently collected £ 8,864 of the goal of £ 20,000 with more than 170 donations.
His brother -in -law told the local newspaper The Nantwich News in an interview two days ago: 'He and Lynn go to Fuerteventura three or four times a year, they have a lot of friends there.
'Lynn had gone back to their apartment and Marsh stayed another drink and walked home when something happened.
“He was hit by this guy, somewhere near a taxi rank, and he went down and hit his head on the concrete floor.
'Witnesses have told the police that this was a completely non -losing punch, there was no fight and they did not know each other.
'We only know that the man they suspect was arrested in an airplane while trying to fly to Glasgow.
'We also told us that this man was thrown out of a bar on the same evening before the attack.
'Marsh has never been in trouble or even had a parking ticket.
“He was just a guy on vacation with his partner.”
The local councilor Allen Gage said on Friday in a post on social media: 'We need justice.
'A much cherished friend of mine, a gentleman who would give you the shirt of his back, was unfortunately attacked and placed in a coma while he was just before Christmas in Spain.
“He literally crossed the way to help someone – no surprise there.
'Mr Marshall Latham,' Marsh 'for his friends, continues to fight in Coma.
'A fundraising from the community has been launched to pursue a civil law. Thanks to everyone who contributed.
“Fight on Marsh, we will also fight for you.”
