In far too many countries, the word 'police' is not reassuring.
Even in civilized European countries, the police are considered to be a disgust and distrust by many authorities -abiding citizens. In less happy countries, corruption and brutality are horribly normal among police officers.
However, the police of this country are different from the beginning, because Great Britain was slow to create the establishment of a police.
Many in parliament had looked over the canal and saw Gendarmes as an army of oppressors, a force to impose the will of the state. It was only the sparkle of Sir Robert Peel who persuaded citizens to change his mind.
He came up with a completely new type of police. They had to be unarmed and modest, their uniforms non-militaristic. Their task was to prevent crime and disorder.
Their methods were conviction and the cultivation of the trust of the public, so that an alliance between the public and their police was formed.
The principles of 1829 of Peel were codified by Charles Reith in his history of our police from 1948. They advise officers to always acknowledge that the power to fulfill their functions and tasks is dependent on the public approval of their existence, actions and actions behavior '.
They urge them to keep a relationship with the public at all times that gives reality to the historical tradition that the police are the audience and the public the police '.

Because, as Peel noted, the police are only members of the public who are paid to give full -time attention to tasks that every citizen should perform when he or she can.

Yet today there are far too many cases of police who leave these principles. Citizens who may have trouble getting the police attention for a crime who then find officers in front of their door because of something they have said on social media.

It is certainly completely legitimate for Mrs. Jones, who lives in the area that politics is represented by such people, to be critical of them within the usual rules against defamer (which is a civil matter).
It would be interesting to ask the locals how quickly the same police responded to any calls for help against burglary and antisocial behavior.
In such serious but increasingly common cases, the police have forgotten their work and invented new tasks that rightly suspect that they are mistaken and are oppressive.
The time may have come for a new Royal Commission for the police, the first since 1962, so that they can be returned to the path that Robert Peel wisely set up for them.
