Alarming theory behind huge surge in bowel cancer among young Australians

Experts suggest that too much meat and microplastics in food can be behind the cause of a huge increase in colon cancer in young Australians.

It is the deadliest cancer for Aussies aged 25-44, but they are too young for free screening, even after the government has lowered the age reduction to 45 last year.

The number of Aussies younger than 40 years at the diagnosis of colon cancer has more than doubled since 2000.

The age group of 15 to 24 has seen a certain peak, which increases by 266 percent for three decades.

Although the exact cause remains unknown, experts have different theories.

“Some theories are that it can be well related to accelerated aging in a younger population,” Julien Wiggins, CEO of Barmel Cancer Australia, told 10 news.

“It could be with intestinal bacteria in the microbiome, for example and even microplastics.”

Colorectal surgeon Dr. The Lacavalerie warned that the majority of young people on which she is active does not have a family history of colon cancer.

She said that excessive meat consumption could be an important factor that contributes to the increase in the cases of colon cancer.

“We eat way too much meat in Australia, and in particular new -Zeeland, which has the highest incidence in the world of colon cancer,” said Dr. de Lacavalerie.

According to experts, a lack of fiber in the diet is also a most important engine for colon cancer.

“A diet with a layer of fiber optic slows the intestine,” said oncologist Tobias Arkenau.

“If toxins do not go out of the organ, it can sit there and ultimately cause inflammation and possibly a higher risk of colon cancer.”

Fiber, the part of vegetable food that cannot be completely demolished by our guts helps to regulate bowel movements.

Food guidelines recommend eating 30 g fiber per day – it is found in leaf -green vegetables, pulses and whole grain.

It has been established that diets with many nutrients considerably reduce the risk of colon cancer, because regular bowel movements help to expel harmful chemicals from the body.

Symptoms of colon cancer include changes in intestinal movements such as consistent and new diarrhea or constipation, which need the need to more or less often pot and blood in the stool.

Stomach pain, a lump in the stomach, a bloated feeling, unexpected weight loss and fatigue include common signs.

Although the disease increases in young people, their symptoms are often rejected.

When Beth Tudehope, 38, went to the doctor with stomach pain, it was initially difficult to determine the cause.

“They gave her some medication and said go home and hopefully that – and she said no, I'm just not right,” her father, Peter Tudhope, told 10 news.

“This is not an old person's disease – this is a young person's disease.”

Furthermore, testing revealed that Beth Stadium had four colon cancer. She died of the disease just 38 years old.

Another Aussie, Tracey Robinson, 38, recently discovered that she had four colon cancer stage after she ended up in the Emergency Department with abdominal pain.

“This is not an old person's disease – this is a young person's disease,” said Beth's father Peter Tudhope

A GoFundMe has been set up to help Mrs. Robinson and her husband cover the costs of her treatment.

She said that there can also be a cautious in potential patients to come forward with their symptoms.

“You don't want to sit and talk about your bowel movements or that, so it's something that you don't really want to advertise or bring it up.”

Doctors told her that an operation to remove the tumor in its upper large intestine is not an option, so she uses immunotherapy medication in an attempt to defeat the cancer that has spread to its liver.

Australians can order a gut screening test via the website of Barmel Cancer Australia or visit a local chemist.
