Three young American women were found dead during the weekend in a beach resort in Belize and officials said they investigated whether drugs played a factor in their tragic fall.
The Belize police identified the women as the 23-year-old Kaoutar Naqqad, the 24-year-old Imane Mallah and 26-year-old Wafae El-Arar, who stayed in the Royal Kahal Beach Resort, a luxury resort on Ambergris Caye, located in San Pedro Town.
Household staff tried to contact them a number of times on Friday, after surveillance images had attracted them their rooms on Thursday evening and did not return, the police said in a statement.
After the staff had not received a response on Saturday morning, they used a head key to come in and the women were all found dead.
First Responders said that the women with foam were found on their mouths, suggesting that a possible overdose of drugs, but the cause of their death is not confirmed.
'The police were thoroughly looking for the scene, together with the pathologists and scenes of crime. There was nothing of content that could have been found differently than alcohol and some gummies, “Chester Williams, police commissioner, told reporters on Monday afternoon.
“We are not saying at the moment that the gummies cause death, but we look at every possibility.”
The police said there were no signs of forced arrival or visible injuries and officers found snacks, liquids, vapen and other electronic devices in the women's room.
'We try to do as well as possible, also to see where they went on Thursday before they went home, what if there is something they have used. All these things we look at, “said Williams.
