An urgent police operation is activated on a popular beach of Gold Coast after a 'suspicious device' was found on the coastline.
The police of Queensland set up a 100 -meter exclusion zone around the item, which was discovered on Thursday morning at the Spit in Main Beach.
Beachgoers reported to the local radio station Hot Tomato that had washed away the cylindrical object for approximately 5.45 am.
Specialist police investigate the item, which was described as on an explosive.
It was found about 300 meters south of the dredger pier on the spit.
“The police ask members of the public to avoid the area,” said Queensland's police in a statement.
