A woman has been charged with an alleged mortgage fraud of millions of dollars to launder funds on behalf of a crime gang that sells tobacco of black market.
Xiaoli Xue, 36, has been accused of fraudulent blow -up of its income to secure 10 housing loans worth almost $ 7 million since 2020.
Subsequently, she would have washed funds of organized criminals in the illegal tobacco trade through the reimbursements.
After her arrest in Berala in the west of the city on Friday, the police fell over two properties and $ 2.5 million in cigarettes and loose tobacco, more than $ 100,000 in cash and a luxury SUV.
An illegal gokhol and a tattoo salon without a permit that was assumed to have been linked to the organized crime group were also discovered, the police said.
NSW Police Financial Crimes Squad Commander Gordon Arbinja said that the use of fraudulent mortgages showed that the length of organized criminals would hide their activities.
“We will not tolerate criminals who undermine the integrity of our financial system,” he said.
The seized assets are frozen and the state of NSW will try to claw the alleged criminal yield.

Xue received a bail in Burwood Local Court on Friday after he was accused of 20 fraud and criminal offenses.
She will have to hand over passports and report to the police daily, while $ 100,000 has to be deposited to protect her release.
Xue will be confronted again with the court on April 30.
The arrest comes after an investigation into seven characteristics that include more than six months.
