“At the moment his focus must be on his health and his family, but on behalf of Queensland I want to thank him for his excellent contribution to the state and wish him the very best on his journey,” Crisafulli said in a statement.

Deputy Commissioner Shane Chelepy will serve as an acting commissioner from Saturday.

Police -Minister then Purdie said that Mr. Chelepy would ensure that a strong and stable leadership of the armed forces would take place.

In a letter issued to his officers on Friday, Mr. Gollschewski said he looked forward to his recovery and returned to complete the work they had started, according to the newspaper Brisbane, the Courier Mail.

“It is with great disappointment that I have to advise you that I started leave for an unknown period after an unexpected diagnosis of cancer,” said it.

“I have a fight for me and with the support of my family I have to concentrate my energies on my treatment.”
