This is the shocking moment that a man was almost crushed by his two -tonne Range Rover after a garage had forgotten to get it out of the 'maintenance mode'.

Carl Midgley, 60, had brought his 2015 Range Rover Evoque to a dealer, not far from his house for work on his rear brakes.

But when his wife Joanne, 63, returned home and parked, the handbrake did not arrive and she remained behind the driver's door who desperately tried to struggle freely while made their drive career.

As she fights to escape, she is trapped through the door – and is forced to stumble next to the vehicle while it absorbs speed.

Images recorded by the CCTV of the couple shows Mr Midlley who overflows from the end of the ride of the couple to try to stop the SUV while it starts to roll towards him.

It was only brought to a halt when it finally struck their built -up flowerbed, just when it reached him – but the couple says it could have killed someone.

They now demand compensation – if Mr Midlley has had to have physiotherapy on his back and it has worsened a hip problem for his wife, who was already walking with a stick.

“I could never have imagined this, but it did it and it was very dangerous,” said Mr. Midgley.

'The car had been to a Jaguar Landrover garage and when we returned, we parked, but without us hadn't been able to have been left in a maintenance mode – the car usually puts on the handbrake automatically.

“My wife got out and it dragged her down. She was already waiting for hip surgery.

“I had physio on my back. They have caused an injury to my back and made my wife's hip worse.

“They have now told us to leave.”

The MidGleys, who are foster carers, immediately contacted the garage after the incident in mid -2023.

The technical team of Land Rover UK inspected the car and said there was nothing wrong with it – but a mode used when working on the vehicle was accidentally left by the garage when it was collected by the couple.

After the smash, the car was damaged and she had repaired to the rear bumper, door, tires and wheels that could cost several thousand pounds.

The garage, Vertu Land Rover in Guiseley, near Leeds, recovered for free.

But Mr Midlley says that he is left behind and goes forward and complains to the garage that are not willing to compensate the couple further.

'We often have our grandchildren left and are foster carers. That car could have killed a toddler, “he went on.

“I don't believe what they have done for us is honest.”

A spokesperson for the dealer said: 'This issue was resolved in 2023, where the customer accepted extensive goodwill gestures.

“We are happy that the customer still uses our services.”
