A 'strewn' girlfriend of a man who killed a cyclist and helped him hide in a hotel room when she was sentenced to two years behind bars.
Samantha Reader was the on -again off -again girlfriend of Joey Matthews – who was convicted with his friend Brandon Ali – to mow Carl Eland while cycling on a sidewalk.
CCTV images showed the white car the walkway on Homerton Road, Middlesbrough and hit the Four father who died five days later on 26 August 2021 of his injuries.
Matthews and Ali denied murder and tried to cause serious physical injury, but both were found guilty and convicted to life behind the bars, with a minimum duration of 21 years in 2022.
Now Matthews -girlfriend, reader is being imprisoned for two years and two months after he was found guilty of helping a perpetrator.
The 27-year-old cried earlier when the court was told how she killed the phone to officers who had called where Matthews was on the run.
She also texted Matthews's mother to share the telephone number of the detective who had called her – warning her to “be careful,” the court heard.
While the search for murderer Matthews continued, he and the reader were low in the Days Inn Hotel in Wyndham from September 29 to October 8, 2021.

“She has vulnerabilities. She is immature and has ADHD. She is very concerned about what awaits her. '
Judge Jonathan Carroll said to the reader: 'You have helped your then friend Joey Matthews, for the murder of Carl Eland. For a week you have done everything to help him avoid arrest.
'Your Google search assignments made it clear that you knew – but you tell a probationary period that you didn't know what he wanted for. That was a clear lie.
'You repeat that lie today. You have little or no, regret. I accept that you were actually a strewn young woman. '

Reader, formerly from Queen's Square in Middlesbrough, sobbed when she was imprisoned for two years and two months.
Detective inspector Matt Hollingsworth, of the murder and large research team of Cleveland, said: “This conviction must send a grim warning to people who think they can help or cherish that are sought by the police.
'You are caught, and you could also spend a period behind bars.
“The reader gave a form of protection to a man we were looking for on suspicion of murder and went to countless attempts to prevent him from being detected.
“It is a criminal offense and a crime that we will take proactive action against to ensure that they are rightly punished through the legal system.”
