A heartbreaking interview by Gene Hackman who opened up about his tragic youth has surfaced on social media after his recent death.
Hackman appeared in an episode of Inside the Actors Studio, a Talk series of the cable television that was previously organized by James Lipton in 2001.
He was asked about his upbringing and Hackman revealed that his father left his family when he was only 13 years old.
The deceased actor said that the farewell was casually while playing outside with his friends.
“He drove past and waved a little,” Hackman remembered, choking the tears.
When asked if Hackman saw his father occasionally after he left, he nodded silently. He added that he was close to his mother and became emotional.
While Hackman struggled to keep his emotions at bay, he broke the tension with a joke and the audience told: “It has only been 65 years or so.”
The joke got a smile and a thunderous applause from the live studio audience when Hackman brushed the pain away.

Gene Hackman sat down for an emotional interview in 2001, where he opened over the toll his father's abandonment had on him

In an attempt to restore the conversation, Lipton Hackman asked if the pain from his childhood ever disappeared.
“You probably make a better actor, I don't know,” Hackman joked before he was clarified quickly, “I don't argue [for] That.'
He further said that his father's abandonment forced him to get in touch with his feelings and to be able to draw out of the pain in his work, was beneficial for his acting capacity.
“You get something out of it,” Hackman concluded and ended the conversation on a positive note.
Although the interview was broadcast more than two decades ago, the clip has now made the rounds on social media after he and his wife were found dead in their house in New Mexico on 26 February.
Social media users were hit by the frankness of Hackman in the clip, with many who mourn the deceased actor prizes and his tragic death.
“Although Gene Hackman is 78 years old in this video, the question about his father who leaves him is still emotional,” wrote a user on X.
“And he later went all that negative energy in great films by a great actor. His pain was not wasted, “said another.

Hackman joked that he had still recovered from leaving his father no more than 60 years later

“Gene was 71 when he did this interview. Of course he still wears the scars and the trauma of that day. It just shows when you hurt a child, they never really get over it. I hope he finally found his peace, “wrote a third user under the clip on YouTube.
'You never leave that kind of pain. Rest in Peace Mr. Hackman, I enjoyed every moment I have viewed you on the screen, 'added a fourth.
Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead at home with one of their dogs.
Their causes of death remain a mystery, with a recent discovery of Hackman's pacemaker and noted that his last recorded heartbeat was on February 17, nine days before his body was discovered.
Two other dogs in the house were still alive when a neighbor made the shocking discovery. Their bodies were found with signs of 'mummification' and body breakdown.
Hackman's body was found in a mud room next to the kitchen next to his sunglasses and reeds, while Arakawa was found in a separate room with a pil bottle next to her.
Detectives do not speculate false play and said there were no signs of forced access in their home.
One of the children of the actor, Leslie Ann Hackman, previously told Dailymail.com that she initially believed that her father and stepmother died after breathing in toxic fumes.
'Despite his age, he was in a very good physical condition. He liked Pilates and Yoga, and he kept doing that several times a week. So he was in good health, “she said.
She added that she was close to her father and credited her stepmother because she took care of him in his old age.

Leslie added that, despite the apparently positive relationship with her father, she had not spoken to him in the weeks before his death.
Hackman previously admitted his relationship with his children when they were young because of his career.
He announced that he was 'so much' while the children were young and were absent when his son, Christopher was in a 'era in which he needed support and guidance'.
Hackman had said he was 'selfish' when he became a Hollywood star and would mean his jobs that he was away from his children for several months in a row.
He shared his three children, Christopher Allen, now 65, Elizabeth Jean, 62, and Leslie Ann Hackman, 59, with his first wife, Fay Maltese.
Hackman and Maltese struggled financially during the start of their marriage and lived with their families in an apartment without warm water in New York City.
Once Hackman got big, their fortunes began to change, but the actor had to be away from his children for months in a row.
Only when he married Arakawa who helped him to make contact with his children again, insiders revealed earlier.
Hackman retired for the last 20 years of his life and lived a calm lifestyle with Arakawa in Santa Fe.
For his retirement, Hackman was a good movie star, who appeared in a whole series of films and scored two Oscar prizes.
He played in the acclaimed film, the French connection in 1972, and two decades later Unforgive.
Hackman was also known for the iconic role of Lex Luther in the adaptation of Superman from 1978, opposite Christopher Reeves.
The actor and cause of death of his wife has not yet been revealed and many questions still arise about what happened to the couple in the weeks before their bodies were discovered.
