A Russian warship has been seen that a sanctioned cargo ship is escorted by men in military fatigue by the English canal.
The Times reported that De Boikiy, a Russian Corvette that is 343ft long and can carry up to 99 men at the same time, was accompanied by the Baltic leader, a large cargo ship that was punished by the US in 2022 for transporting weapons for Russia, in the early hours of Monday morning.
Armed staff were seen that machine guns were seen on the warship when it went through the south of the English canal, the newspaper reported.
The Baltic leader wore a mission of military hardware of a Russian base in Tartus, Syria, where Kremlin operations are phased out in the aftermath of the fall of dictator Bashar al-Assad.
James Droxford, from the Intelligence Advice Agency Droxford Maritime, said: “The recovered military hardware on board Baltic leader could be used to strengthen the combat capacity of Russia in Ukraine, or to supplement military shares in other important Russian military regions.”
The Escort Mission of the Boikiy started at 5 am on 3 March south of Torquay.
The convoy slowly traveled over the English canal, before it was followed by two ships, HMS Somerset of the Royal Navy and the Belgian Navy Ship BNS Crocus.
The Baltic leader was then seen who left the English canal on March 4 at 2 p.m.

Satellite images showed the Baltic leader who showed Tartus, Syria on 13 February. Russia has shifted the use of the part since the fall of Assad.
This, combined with the increased capacity of Ukraine to let Russian ships sink into the Black Sea, has resulted in an increased activity in Syrian waters.
Droxford said: “Ukraine could destroy hundreds of tons of vital Russian military material in one go by attacking the ships and that is a huge risk for Russia to take.”
Joseph Byrne, senior analyst at the Open Source Center, said The Times: 'Although it is not exactly clear which load the ship is loading, Tartus is a port where Russia has stopped its military equipment, probably waiting for transport.
'Since mid -February we have seen a number of Russian marked cargo ships sail from Syria to the Mediterranean Sea and through the English canal.
“They have shown very similar patterns of life, including the elimination of their transponders when entering Syrian waters and ports, not broadcasting their latest destinations and seem to sail by sailing with a military escort for protection.”
Russia's army has become more brutal in recent weeks.
Last week, NATO was forced to clamber war aircraft from Poland after Vladimir Putin used strategic bombers and missiles to attack neighboring Ukraine – even as Vladimir Putin says he wants to 'want' as quickly as possible.

The Air Force of Putin has used TU-95MS nuclear composite strategic bombers to pound goals in Ukraine, causing panic in Kiev when residents hurry to the underground shelters of the metro.
Explosions were heard in Kiev, Zhytomyr and Sumy, as well as in various cities in the regions of Zaporizhzhia and Chernihiv. Drones were also used by Russia, with various people who reportedly suffered injury.
Warsaw's Armed Forces Operation Command Headquarters ordered NATO Jets to patrol Polish airspace while Russian bombers and missiles over Ukraine rose in the midst of the fear that they could approach the Polish border.
“The attention, because of the activity of the long-distance aviation of the Russian Federation, in particular striking goals, in western Ukraine, military aviation started to operate in the airspace of Poland,” said the command head of the headquarters.
Air defenses and radar exploration systems were also 'alert' on the ground.
