A ghostly message left on the body of a crime boss that was shot dead in what is considered a cartel gangland -murder, could link crime to the horrific slaughter of nine Mexican students who had hacked their hands by gangsters 300 miles away.
Prominent businessman José Alfredo Lavariega Canseco, aka 'Jochha', was found dead in his car in the Canta Rana district in Barra Copalita, on the south coast of Mexico, the police announced on Sunday.
On his body a note was written in Spanish with the text: “This is what you get as a thief.”
WhatsApp conversations between a group of students who were killed in San Jose Miahuatlan, in the north, suggest that Jochha had contact with them -as local media reports they had taken a series of robberies in the direction of the businessman.
Mexican Outlet NVI Noticias claimed that the students were members of the 'Los ZacapoaxTlas' criminal organization that 'had tampered with the wrong person'.
Local media reports that Jochha, a former mayor candidate, had taken them to the region to “carry out criminal activities” before “things were wrong, causing a conflict with local gangs to be activated.”

The remains of nine bodies were discovered this weekend in the trunk of an abandoned car in San Jose Miahuatlan, about 175 miles from Mexico City.
Five of the nine were found under a blood -drenched sail, while the remaining four in the trunk were found in what is supposed to be a wild cartel murder.
Brenda Salas, 19, barely escaped death after he was kidnapped, beaten and abandoned on a highway.
In a shocking turn, she told the office of the Tlaxcala State Attorney General that it was actually allocated agents to the police of the municipality who forced her in a patrol vehicle and kidnapped them.
First reports from Mexican points of sale suggested that the victims were students, originally from Tlaxcala, who had traveled to the beaches in Oaxaca for vacation.
But NVI Noticias reported that the group of criminal was involved, with reference to police reports that they arrived at the coast of Oaxacan at the beginning of February and “established their operations in the activities to rob holders of bank account, business thefts and looting.”
The outlet mentioned reports reportedly sent by the students to a WhatsApp group of ZacapoaxTlas, which refers to Jocha.
“We are worth V., and send it to Jochha … He says he is on the road here … Don't make a noise,” one would have read one.
Another message sent to a WhatsApp group that is stored as 'Los ZacapoaxTlas' reads: 'Jocha talks to me / that they go to the beach …'
The creepy discovery of the nine bodies came as the supposed leader of the Los Zacapoaxtlas – Jose Alfredo, known as El Jochha – was also shot on Sunday.

Authorities have detected security images from 24 February with the vehicle that runs along the Atlixcayotl Highway near the city of Atlixco, about 90 miles west of where the students' remains were found
The body of El Jochha, who had previously led for a mayor position in Oaxaca's resort area of Huatulco, was found with a message with the text: “That's what you get as a thief.”
Cartels are known for chopping the hands of people who sees it as thieves, which suggests that the murders are all connected and are probably performed by the same group.
Jocha was a 'respected' businessman who became a politician in the region before his death in the region, according to Imparcial Oaxaca.
He had led to the municipal presidency of Santa María Huatulco with the Partido Encuentro Social (PES) party, but lost.
The police reported on Sunday to find his body with signs of violence and shot wounds.
The office of the attorney general of the state of Oaxaca (FGEO) has started an investigation into death.
Until now, the motive is unknown, local media reports.
Unge texts suggest that he may have had contact with the nine killed in San Jose Miahuatlan.

NVI Noticias quoted local investigations and discovered that the students can be involved 'in the robbery of a public person at a Santander Bank in Santa Cruz Huatulco.
The outlet called alleged WhatsApp messages in which they said that they discussed 401,500 pesos, referring to an article that claimed that almost half a million had been stolen.
They were also accused of trying to rob a Santander money machine in the center of Huatulco, and tried to rob a shopping center, both on 17 February.
The report suggests that they might have called Jocha for help when 'alleged police officers' appeared in their hotel.
