'Reckless' Aussies that visit beaches during Cycloon Alfred can be hit with huge fines.
“There has been really foolish behavior and it is so important that people stay away from the beach,” said the acting mayor of Gold Coast Donna Gates.
“We have been named a disaster zone that enables the police to take action and anyone who performs a reckless action can actually be fined up to $ 16,100.”
She said the fines were meant to keep 'people who are a bit stupid' safe.
Videos on social media in the last 24 hours show that Aussies are stranded on beaches, including images of a group on rocks to get a better view of the huge waves when a huge wave crashed over them and she almost pulled into the surf.
Federal MP Andrew Wallace also shared a video on Tuesday with a 'selfish' swimmer who showed the branding in Kings Beach in Calounra on the Sunshine Coast.
