An 'incredibly popular' police officer who accompanies King Charles III to Windsor Castle has been left with broken bones in his neck and legs after a crashing with a car.
Darren Smith rode a motorcycle, apart from the special escortgroepkonvooon and the King of London to his home in Windsor Castle on 20 February.
Only two miles from the castle, Darren was involved in a collision with a car in Bijl, Berkshire, and was taken to the hospital.
On a GoFundMe page, founded by friend and colleague Dean Reynolds, it reveals that the motorcyclist sustained 'significant injuries', including broken bones in his legs, breastbone and neck.
It adds that Darren is now confronted with a 'long way to recovery' where he has to undergo physiotherapy to 'learn to walk well again'.
Fundraising has collected more than £ 1600 in seven hours with the money to offer financial support to try to remove part of the tension, while he is unable to work.
Darren has since been released from the hospital and is back at home with the metropolitan police who say that his injuries have been determined as 'non-lifferring'.
Formed in 1952, The Special Escort Group (SEG) is a department within the royalty and specialist protection of the metropolitan police.
