High streets in the outer neighborhood in London have been financially affected by the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), has unveiled new data from Transport for London (TFL).
Mayor Sadiq Khan made his zone almost four times larger by covering very large -lasts in August 2023, creating the world's largest loading region for pollution.
He brought all the outer districts of the capital to the area, which includes nine million people, but a new report has now unveiled the financial costs for companies that are affected by the change.
Expenditure on the Hoofdstraat fell by 3.4 percent in the year after Ulez was expanded, compared to a decrease of 2.8 percent in the inner London.
Barking & Dagenham saw the biggest decrease in the expenditure of the Hoofdstraat, with a decrease of 13.25 percent.
Only eight of the 33 local authority areas in London saw the expenditure raised in the Hoofdstraat after Ulez was introduced in all Boroughs in London, the report showed.
But Sir Sadiq has remained steadfast that the scheme has not had any influence on the retail trade and has contributed to reducing the pollution levels in the capital.
For petrol cars to meet the ULEZ standards – based on emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particles – they must be registered for the first time after 2005 after 2005.

Most diesel cars registered after September 2015 are also exempt from the costs.
Drivers who enter the zone in a non-compliance vehicle must pay a daily fee of £ 12.50 unless they are exempt, such as taxis or transport for people with disabilities.

In a statement, Sir Sadiq said: 'When I was chosen for the first time, evidence showed that it would take 193 years to bring London's air pollution within the legal limits if the current efforts would take place.
'Because of our transforming policy, we have now almost reached this year.
'Today's report shows that ULEZ works, levels of pollution is falling, removes old polluting cars from our way and brings cleaner air to millions of more Londoners.
'The decision to expand the ULEZ was not something that I took lightly, but this report shows that it was the right one for the health of all Londoners.
'It has been crucial to protect the health of Londoners, to support the lung growth of children and to reduce the risk that people will develop asthma, lung cancer and a large number of other health problems with regard to air pollution.

“With city districts in the outer London that see some of the largest reductions of harmful emissions and the disadvantaged communities of London also see more benefits, this report shows why the expansion of Ulez London-Wijd was so important.”
Critics say that the mayor has largely ignored the financial impact on companies that have seen a decrease in sales and footsteps since the schedule was expanded.
Keith Prince, the spokesperson for the Conservatives of the Town Hall, told the Telegraph: 'The mayor supply these results supposedly with a London where the ULEZ schedule did not happen, as if we can accurately measure something like that.
“How he can say that ULEZ is responsible for cleaning up London with a straight face, is beyond me – the data is based on Maybes, possibilities, assumptions and direct fantasy to justify a project that TFL and Londoners debt Bergen.”
The report follows a report last month that only one in five drivers pay their ULEZ fines on time, suggests new research, because motorists ignore the notifications of the fine (PCNs).
A freedom of information by Turo has established that Londoners do not observe strict rules on emission levels in the capital, with £ 438 million in total fines owed.
More than 100,000 cars have received five or more fines, with another 76,000 who received ten or more.
It emphasizes the difficulty that many Londoners have who offer a new conforming car or fines from ULEZ.

A freedom of information by Turo last month discovered that Londoners do not comply with strict rules on emission levels in the capital, with £ 438 million owed to total fines
Because the ULEZ extension in 2023 TFL issued more than 2.4 million fines – equivalent to one every 15 seconds.
Despite these almost constant stream fines that have been handed out, the FOI has been discovered that only 20.2 percent are paid on time.
A spokesperson for the mayor of London said: “Sadiq is proud of being a mayor.
“The overwhelming evidence is that ULEZ has had no influence on the footstep or retail and leisure expenditure in the outer London.”
