New York Yankees legend and World Series champion Art Schallock dead at 100

The New York Yankees mourn the death of the former World Series champion Werper Art Schallock after his death at the age of 100.

From 2022, Schallock was the oldest baseball player in Major League who was still alive, and his death was announced by the competition on Saturday evening.

An explanation was: 'We are sad to learn about the death of Art Schallock, which we celebrated last year on his 100th birthday. Mr Schallock threw from 1951-55 for the Yankees and Orioles. He was the oldest player of MLB and would have become 101 next month. '

Schallock played five seasons in the large competitions and was part of three World Series teams, threw in the 1953 series against the rival Brooklyn Dodgers.

After the death of Schallock, the title of the oldest living baseball player is passed on to Bill Greason, the former St. Louis Cardinals world who turned 100 in September.

The Yankees also placed a tribute to Schallock on social media, write: 'The Yankees Rouwen for the death of former Yankees -Werker Art Schallock and expand our deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of art.

“Art, who won 3 World Series -Ringen with the Yankees from 1951 to 1953, became 100 last April and was the oldest living former player of MLB.”

During his time as a Yankee, the New York Post reported that he was like a Rookie with Yogi Berra, Ted Williams Hitless held in two perches and shared a clubhouse with Joe Dimaggio and Mickey Mantle.

After leaving the Yankees, he continued to the Baltimore Orioles, where he appeared in 58 Major League matches, including 14 as a starting pitcher.

He and his wife Dona Bernard married 76 years until her death in April 2023, and the couple had two children and five grandchildren.
