Frustrated experts have sent a blunt message to residents who flood warnings about ex -Cyclone Alfred – You endanger your life by vending to vomit in flooded areas.
The impact of Alfred can be relaxed, but flood warnings multiply while swollen rivers and creeks are bursting their banks, river areas overflow and soaked soil can no longer absorb rain.
Residents – some are tired to house without food or electricity and some trying to return home after the shelter elsewhere – take great risks to venture in flooded areas.
'Unfortunately, people still walk in and drive into the flood water. I understand the appetite to check your house … The most important message is contact with us, work with us together and we will all come home safely, said NSW SES commissioner Mike Wassing.
The SES has warned that flood water can be deeper than they seem, can have rapid currents that are not visible on the surface and can hide dangers that can cause an injury or a loss of foot.
Hazardous materials can also be present in flood water, such as broken glass or chemicals, powered powerlines can be a risk of electric shock and those wading through the water can also get potentially serious infections.
“The immediate physical health effects of floods include drowning, falls and injuries, but exposure to polluted floods can also lead to bacterial infections,” said Jodie Bailie, a researcher from the Center for National Health of the University of Sydney, who has studied flood effects on people.

The Water Authority of Zuidoost -Veensland has also warned residents to prevent them from venturing into the flood water, throwing away food that is spoiled and has sufficient clean drinking water, because there is a risk of contamination due to sewage treatment plants.
'We experience waste water overflows from a part of our infrastructure for a number of reasons, including increased flows of wet weather, power failure or critical components from pumping stations that have been removed as part of preparation works.
“We remind people to avoid contact with flood water and local waterways after wet weather, because they can be influenced by a series of sources, including diluted waste water, debris, pet waste and storm water drainage.”
Mrs Bailie said that her team also found strong evidence from other issues that can be caused by flood water, even for people who do not immediately venture in them.
'In the aftermath of flooding, breathing problems can occur due to fungal and moist housing, while they are also ideal conditions for infections transferred by mosquitoes such as Ross River Virus and Murray Valley encephalitis.
“Chronic conditions such as diabetes or kidney diseases can also worsen due to reduced access to transport, health care, medicines and hospitals.”
She said that there were also indications of the consequences for mental health with a study after the floods of Northern Rivers 2017 who demonstrated 'those who had flood in their home or business, or were displaced for more than six months, were more likely to have post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety or depression'.
Flood warnings of the Bureau of Meteorology Spanken Zuidoost -Veensland and Noordoost -NSW, including for Brisbane, Logan, De Gold Coast, Ipswich, Northern Rivers and Northern Tablelands while swollen rivers and creeks break their banks.
Flood water can contain hidden hazards, ranging from bacteria to crushed high -voltage lines.
The weather system, relegated to a tropical low point, has battered Southeast Queensland with heavy rainfall of more than 400 mm in some places in the 24 hours to 9 am Monday, and it is expected that it will go to the southwest from Monday afternoon to NSW.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue on Monday morning in Southeast -Queensland, but the circumstances are expected to be completed in the afternoon.
“But with a lot of water to find its way through the river systems, the flood effects will probably continue, certainly in the middle and perhaps last parts of this week,” said Christie Johnson of Bureau of Meteorology.
More than 450 schools in Brisbane will remain closed on Monday and bus services are canceled as roads are flooded by flash floods.
Hundreds of thousands of houses remain without power, but Energex censuses work on reconnecting the 200,000 properties.
“They place everything to reconnect people, and it is very difficult to get back on their feet without power,” Prime Minister David Crisafulli told ABC Radio.
In the north of NSW, around 1800 people are isolated by the dones that cut roads, and other 18,500 has been told that they can be isolated.
