It took so long before Gene Hackman and his wife Betsey Arakawa were found because the actor probably didn't even realize that she had died before his own death, according to experts.
The beloved actor, 95, and the classic pianist, 65, were both dead in their $ 3.8 million Santa Fe, New Mexico -house on 26 February, together with one of their dogs, Zina.
After weeks of speculation, the authorities announced on Friday that Arakawa died of the HantaVirus stulmonary syndrome – a disease transferred by rats – on 11 February. The Superman actor died about a week later around February 18.
Dr. Heather Jarrell, Chief Medical Examiner for the State, said that although Hackman died of hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disorders, his advanced Alzheimer's was also an 'important contributing factor'.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden has detailed what the last days of the Oscar winner perhaps looked after his wife of more than 30 years died.
'I think what [happened] Here he wasn't knew and … did not understand that she was dead. He did not understand that he had to call 911, “Baden told Fox News Digital.
'It sounded like he wandered a bit, was able to drink water from … [the] Kitchen gutter or even get some food from the fridge … [he] Probably nothing could cook, but could eat bread or something like he was hungry, “he went on.
The medical contribution of the Outlet Dr. Marc Siegel reflects the determination of Baden that the mental state of Hackman played a major role in the discovery of their bodies.

Dr. Heather Jarrell, Chief Medical Examiner for the State, said that although Hackman (depicted in 1996) died of hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disorders, his advanced Alzheimer's was also a “significant contributing factor” ”

Prior to their sudden dead, Arakawa seemed to be his primary caregiver, according to Baden. (Shown: Hackman and Arakawa in 1991)
'If he was unable to call 911 and show her, and there was a week, he would either go into a state of great despondency or he was somehow engaged.
“Or his Alzheimer's was so serious that he was unable to even notice what was going on,” Seigel added.
Prior to their sudden dead, Arakawa seemed to be his primary caregiver, according to Baden.
“It seems that she really took good care of him. First and then she goes … pointing to the evidence that was presented for about six, seven days – 11th to the 17th – when they [knew] that something [had] He happened to him, “Baden said.
Arakawa is said to have died first because of her infection, which initially exhibited with flu -like symptoms.
A CDC source previously told DailyMail.com that although the main house of the couple did not show any signs of rodent activity, some outbuildings of the building – including a garage and two Casitas – had rodent drops and other proof of rodent activity.
Hantavirus is usually reported in the spring and summer, often because of exposures that occur when people are in the vicinity of excrement of mice in houses, barns or poorly ventilated areas.
Although Hantavirus is found around the world, most cases have been found in the US in the Western states.

The virus can cause a serious and sometimes deadly lung infection. Symptoms can cough, shortness of breath and tightness in the chest.
According to Jarrell, the autopsy of Hackman showed signs of “serious heart conditions, including several surgical procedures in which the heart was involved, proof of earlier heart attacks and serious changes in the kidneys due to chronic high blood pressure.”
After she investigated his brain, she also discovered that “advanced Alzheimer's disease” and “blood vessel changes in the brain secondary to chronic high blood pressure.”
The medical researcher also said that on 18 February his pacemaker showed an 'abnormal rhythm of atrial fibrillation' – the last time the device indicated any activity.
In general, Jarrell concluded that the actor “was in a very poor health state.”
On Friday, Santa Fe Sheriff Adam Mendoza announced that his department will keep the case of the couple open until they 'close the meshes'.
Despite the fact that each of their death is naturally ruled, without signs of internal or external trauma, Mendoza has insisted that authorities are not done with the investigation
In particular, the sheriff said they are waiting to see the mobile phone records of the couple, as well as the results of a necropsia or autopsy, which will be performed on their deceased dog.
“We consider this an open investigation until we close the meshes of the mobile phone, until we complete the necropsier results of the dogs and the other loose ends that we have to tie up,” said Mendozoa during a press conference on Friday.
'But you know, I think we are pretty close to the timeline and with the information that Dr. Jarrell has provided, “he added.
According to a search order obtained by Fox New Digital, investigators mentioned two mobile phones among the items from their home.
Although he made it clear that his department wants to watch the records of the mobile phone, Mendoza also said that it was 'very unlikely' that they would discover everything they did not yet know about the timeline of their death.
He also said that he was not sure whether the Oscar winner even used a mobile phone, or whether he tried to communicate with someone while he was alone for a week after Arakawa died.
'I don't know if he used mobile phones or technology or e -mails, there is no indication of that. So now there is no activity from Mr. Hackman, “he added.
When asked if he knew whether Arakawa communicated with loved ones about how she did not feel good before her sudden death, Mendoza said he hopes that phone information can reveal that.
'Again, we go through part of the communication, and I think the mobile phones have some instructions before the 11th.

Arakawa was found on her side in the bathroom with a space heating next to her head, while Hackman was discovered on the floor of a mud room near the kitchen with its sunglasses and reeds nearby. (Shown: the couple in 1993)
“But from this moment on I have no information that she indicated that she felt sick during some communication,” he said.
Arakawa was found on her side in the bathroom with a space heating next to her head.
Their 12-year-old puppy was found dead in a crate in their home, in which she was probably placed after receiving a treatment in advance.
Hackman was discovered on the floor of a mud room near the kitchen with its sunglasses and reeds in the neighborhood, indicating that he fell according to officials.
Civil servants also said that there was no trace of carbon monoxide in the bodies of the couple, despite many who thought they were initially poisoned.
