The world's largest music publisher has attacked British government plans to allow a copyright exemption for AI as 'rushed, unbalanced and irreversible', the Daily Mail can reveal.

Sony Music has insisted that copyright should be protected as a 'right, no regulation' – and a 'necessary reward' for makers and artists.

The intervention of the company comes after leading figures from the music world, including Sir Elton John, Sir Brian May, Lord Lloyd-Webber and Simon Cowell, have supported an e-mail campaign against the movement of the government.

The creative industries of Great Britain are worth £ 126 million and it is feared that the change would enable AI to plunder creative works.

The current copyright laws stipulate that makers have automatic protection and must be compensated if it is determined that their works have been stolen.

The government opened a consultation in December and said it gives a response to a response that gives AI companies an exception of copyright.

But in an entry to ministers, seen by the Daily Mail, Sony said: “Copyright is a right, no regulations and a necessary social reward for creating and investing in works that benefit society and benefit human life.”

Sony revealed that it has requested more than 75,000 'AI Deepfakes' of published music. It continued: “AI-generated recordings in music streaming services result in direct commercial damage to legitimate recording artists, including British artists.”

The label said that the exemption could make a 'huge new administrative burden' on makers to 'constantly defend their work online'. But it added: 'Owners should not proactively assert rights over each piece of their property in order not to let them expropriate.

“To say it in a different way, would the government need homeowners to tag all their possessions to be protected against burglary?”

The company also attacked the proposed change as 'Special counter-intuitions when the British government has identified the creative industry as one of the eight' growth-writing sectors ''.

On Friday, the Daily Mail reported how copyright attorney Nicholas Caddick KC suggested that the government's plan can break the Berne Treaty, which says that the work of the makers is protected when it is written or recorded. But the government said that the Convention does not have specific provisions for the interaction of copyright legislation and artificial intelligence.

A government spokesperson said: 'The current UK for copyright and AI is blocking the creative industries, media and AI sectors – and that cannot continue. That is why we have consulted with a new approach that protects the interests of both AI developers as correct holders and delivers a solution for both. '

They added: “No decisions will be made until we are absolutely sure that we have a practical plan that provides each of our objectives, including increased control for straight holders to help them easily license their content, making legal access to material possible to train worldwide-in-tone in the UK and more transparent is used and more transparency is used in the UK and more transparency that is used in the UK.
