A judge has started to temporarily block the deportation of a pro-Palestine activist that led student protests at Columbia University.

Khalil was held on Saturday evening by ice officers – who said they had been ordered to withdraw his green card – for his pregnant wife.
But a federal judge in New York poured water on Monday on Trump's plan and blocked the administration of deporting Khalil to at least the next hearing on Wednesday.
The judicial order, seen by DailyMail.com, states: “To retain the jurisdiction of the court pending a decision on the petition, the submitter is not removed from the United States unless and until the court orders otherwise.”
Khalil, a Palestinian who was born and raised in Syria, helped protests against Israel at Columbia University in Leiden last year.
He also acted as a negotiator between students and university officials.
The protests were allowed to walk unbridled for two weeks. They were characterized by violent attacks and cases of Jewish students who were afraid to go to class.

In a direct warning at universities and colleges throughout the country, Trump said that they are expected to 'comply with' this decision.
Khalil, who graduated in December, is, according to federal data in the detention in an immigration -detention facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Activists who lobby for the release of Khalil say that he was confronted in his apartment building at 8:30 pm by two normal clothing DHS agents, who both refused to identify themselves.
