Vice -President JD Vance started a day of diplomacy in Washington by organizing the Irish Taoiseach and turning green.

During comments in the home of the VP, VANCE spoke about taking a week of vacation to Ireland and admiring his 'beautiful landscape' and technological growth.

Then he emphasized the ties of friendship between the countries. With a green tie, VANCE spoke about how it was easy for his wife Usha to wear the color.

'It is also a really great opportunity for Usha to wear her pair of green pants. She has this for years in the closet and can finally break them out, “he said, laughing.

Among those in the audience were Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who has been a reliable voice for the conservative majority.

Many Americans have Irish descent and give the visit to the domestic political import. Vance wrote about his own origin in his autobiography. “To understand me, you have to understand that I am a Scottish-Irish Hillbilly in heart and soul,” he wrote.

President Donald Trump will today meet the Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin in the White House, while the few events attend to underline American solidarity and get a very early start of St. Patrick's Day.

Martin had to skip events with Joe Biden – who praises his Irish roots – last year after he had come up with a case from Covid. In the end he almost participated.

Martin and Trump hold a bilateral meeting in the morning and then go to the Capitol for the annual Friends of Ireland lunch. If the festivities look early, it is because they are. The house and the Senate will be during the week of March 17 – assuming that the government was not closed by that time.

Then it is back to the White House for a Shamrock reception on Wednesday evening. That could give Trump the opportunity to weigh on trade, Gaza and a diplomatic breakthrough with Ukraine.

It will not all be fun and games. Like other visiting foreign leaders, the Taoiseach will have difficulty trying to isolate his country from Trump rates that the financial markets have sustained.

It is Trump's first meeting with a world leader since his angry confrontation with the Ukrainian President Zensky in the Oval Office.
