Three police officers who are central to the hunt for serial killer Ivan Milat, believe that up to 80 more victims can be killed and dumped in Bushland, Australia.

The Backpacker murderer spent the end of his life behind bars, convicted of the kidnapping, assault and theft of two men and five women in NSW between 1989 and 1992.

Milat maintained his innocence until his death in 2019.

Former NSW investigators Neville Scullion and Paul Gordon and a former undercover officer who is known as 'Roy' have broadcast their beliefs that the murder of Milat extended beyond the murders for which he was tried.

The detectives suggested that they suspect that the Spree of Milat could date from the 1970s.

Detective Scullion, who led the Milat study in the early 1990s, said there are around 900 people who missed in the long term, only in NSW.

Some of those missing people were also last seen at locations that was Milat frequent.

Detective Scullion told The Missing Australia: Ivan Milat Untold Podcast -Gastheer Meni Caroutas There were about 700 unsolved murders, of which several 'you could watch and think, yes, Milat has been involved'.

Detective Paul Gordon believes that the real number can be closer to 60 victims

Detective Paul Gordon (right) told the missing podcast -hast -host Meni Caroutas (left) that he believes that Milat was active for 20 years, in the last interview for his own death

“There are something a maximum of 80 people he killed,” he said.

“The first body is found in 1992, he was arrested in 1994, but he not only started killing in '92 … he was unbridled for a period of 20 years.”

Detective Gordon brought important survivor Paul onions into the Milat research, so that detectives could identify their husbands.

Mr Onions struggled with Milat in 1990 before they made a formal police statement in Bowral. The statement was placed away for years before it was investigated.

In his last interview, detective Gordon separately claimed to have killed Milat dozens of more people than for which he was once held responsible.

“Do mathematics, two or three a year for 20 years,” said Det Gordon.

He believes it would be an extra 60 victims.

Undercover Agent, Roy, was responsible for disturbing Milat's caravan for his arrest.

He found an extensive poor cache including weapons, crossbows and knives in the van.

That bus helped Roy to lead to believe that Milat was a likely suspect for various other inexplicable disappearances, at least from the 1970s until his arrest in 1994.

“He had a camper and he used to camp in different parts of Australia. I would certainly set it up high, “Roy told the podcast.

Milat once left a criminologist who he had written that one of his victims was raped before she was murdered, even though it was not part of the crown of the crown against him.

He slid the information to author Amanda Howard shortly before his death before she told the podcast.

Whether Milat has acted alone has also been the subject of a lot of speculation.

In the conviction of Milat, Justice David Hunt said that two people had been clearly involved in two of the murders.

Milat was an active shooter and hunter as a young man, and spent Stints in prison for burglaries and breaking and arrives in the sixties.

In the seventies he was tried and acquitted of the rape of an 18-year-old girl who had a friend lifted to Melbourne with a friend.

Friends said Milat often brag about his taste for violence.

The crimes for which Milat served his prison sentence include the murder of the Victorian 19-year-old Deborah Everist and James Gibson, whose bodies were found to be of importance in the Staatsbos in 1993.

They were missing while lifting to a music festival in 1989.

The body of German wife Simone Schmidl, 21, was also found by a fire path in the forest of importance in 1993 after she left Sydney for Melbourne in 1991.

Germans Anja Habschied, 20, and Gabor Neuugebauer, 21, were found 50 meters apart in 1993 in the Staatsbos after they had left Sydney for Adelaide in 1991.

British backpackers Joanne Walters, 22, and Caroline Clarke, 21, had also left Sydney to Hitchhike South in April 1992.

Their bodies were found in September of the same year in the Staatsbos.
