Vice president JD Vance and Second Lady welcomed the Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin and his wife Mary O'Shea in the residence for an old traditional breakfast, but he did not refer to his Irish heritage.
During breakfast, Vance remembered that he visited Ireland in October 2023 with his wife while he was a senator.
“It is such a remarkable combination of an incredible community of a beautiful landscape, but also a lot of technological growth,” he said.
Vance wore a special pair of green-clover socks for the visit and revealed that his wife Usha should finally wear her unique green pants for the occasion.
“It is also a really great opportunity for Usha to wear this pair of green pants, she has this for years in the end and finally gets them out,” he said with a smile.
But Martin mentioned Vance's heritage specific during his comments.
“Scots-Irish emigrants, including your ancestors, played a key role in shaping this country,” he said.
Martin said he would be 'honored and delighted' to welcome the Vance family to Ireland.

Vance's ancestors emigrated from Ireland, as he said in his famous 2016 Memoir Hillbilly Elegy.
“To understand me, you have to understand that I am a Scottish-Irish Hillbilly in heart and soul,” he wrote.
Vance's ancestors migrated Barnbarroch in Wigtonshire, Scotland to the province of Noord -Ireland before they traveled to the United States, according to Tyrone historian John Hagan.
“He is aware that a small village in the Tyrone countryside is his ancestral house – very unlikely, but whether he, whether he is successful or not in the upcoming elections, I would like to visit Coagh,” Hagan told Northern Ireland World in 2024.
