A French politician has called on the United States to return the Statue of Liberty that was donated 140 years ago as a sign of friendship between the two nations.
The French Socialist Mep Raphaël Glucksmann said that President Trump's decision to “have the side of the tyrants on the side of the tyrants,” justified his request.
The left-wing politician seemed to refers to Trump's position about the conflict in Ukraine-Russia.
Glucksmann said at a party treaty, said to the crowd: “We are going to say to the Americans who have chosen to choose the side of the tyrants, to the Americans who have dismissed researchers for demanding scientific freedom:” Give us back the statue of liberty. “
'We have given it to you as a gift, but apparently you despise it. So it will be fine here. '
The French donated the Statue of Liberty to the United States in 1884 and it was unveiled in New York only two years later in 1886.
Since then it has become synonymous with the city and it is an important tourist attraction.
European countries reacted with a horror of Trump's decision to suspend military financing for Ukraine in the midst of tense peace negotiations with Russia, facilitated by the United States.

The situation exploded during a meeting in the White House between Trump and Ukrainian leader Voloymyr Zensky.
Trump and Vice -President JD Vance organized Zensky with the intention of signing a mineral deal that would give the United States access to important Ukrainian means in exchange for the past and constant military help to help combat Russian invasion.
However, the meeting imploded and was abruptly ended, with the American leader and his VP Criticism of Zensky because he was unable to show enough gratitute for the dozens of billions of dollars that America has already led in the war.
After the meeting, Trump introduced the freezing of all financing and sharing some information.
Glucksmann is an avid defender of Ukraine, making the issue the number one priority of his 2024 campaign.
He is the son of a French philosopher and was raised against the privileged Kosmopolitan near Paris.
In 2014 he described himself as a 'revoluation consultant', writing and making speeches for Boxer who became mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko.
At the time, Glucksmann lived in Ukraine.

Before the statue was sent over the Atlantic, it was completely assembled in a public park in Paris, to test how the structure would last. During those years, Parisians lovingly referred to the image as the 'Lady of the Park'. Displayed, the statue of liberty high over roofs in Paris after it was first completed in 1884.
During the same controversial speech as the statue of Liberty remarks, Glucksmann gave a second message directly to Americans.
'If you want to fire your best researchers, if you want to dismiss all the people who, because of their freedom and their sense of innovation, have made their taste and research, your country, we will welcome them, “he said.
There have long been questions about whether France would ever formally ask to return the Statue of Liberty, or whether the Trump government admires what it stands for.
A Reddit user recently said: 'There may be $ 230,000 in scrap copper. I am surprised that Doge has not melted it yet. '
The Ministry of Government Efficiency of the billionaire Elon Musk is responsible for eradicating waste expenditure.
Another said: “In that scenario, I think Trump would say” for sure. It's yours. Come pick it up. We will charge you a warehouse costs of $ 1 billion/day that tail tomorrow ''. '
Trump and French President Emmanual Macron enjoyed a broadly reported bromance during the first term of Trump.
Photos of those who hold hand in hand and grin in the rose garden of the White House accompanied every story about the relationships between the US-French.
“He's perfect,” Trump said in 2018.
And after winning the 2024 race to return to the White House, Trump doubled his admiration of France and described the nation as 'our oldest ally and one of our greatest'.
OneWhen the tensions were high, because they were over to keep the US in Iran's nuclear deal, their personal chemistry had diplomacy.
Macron had impressed Trump with the full military splendor of the Bastille Day Parade, who encouraged the American president to think about having his own representation of armed power.
So Macron was considered the perfect messenger from Europe to travel to the White House last month to gently remind Trump that Russian aggression threatened much more than just Ukraine.
“I think a lot of progress has been made. We have had some very good conversations, “Trump said after the meeting. “We try to end the war.”
The friendship between the United States and France dates from 1778. France was the first nation to develop diplomatic ties with America.
But there have been several collisions in recent memory. The US and France clashed over the handling of the war in Iraq in 2003 and during the civil war.
