Youngbloods tenor Jesse Colin Young, whose catalog included the Peace-And-Love Anthem of 1969, died on Sunday at the age of 83 in his house in Aiken, South Carolina.
The death of the singer-songwriter was announced by his publicist Michael Jensen, the New York Times reported Monday.
Young sang the chorus of the song: “Come on people now/smile on your brother/everyone come together/try to love each other now”, who described the newspaper as “one of the most famous choruses of the sixties.”
The national anthem was prominent in the Oscar winner of 1994 Forrest Gump, as well as other films such as the fear and disgust of 1998 in Las Vegas, The Dish 2000's The Dish and 2007's Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
Get Together was written by folkartist Dino Valenti, who, according to the newspaper, used the pseudonym Chet Powers on the track.
Valenti was last member of the band Quicksilver Messenger Service.
