The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the attacks after Hamas had not released the hostages or accepted American proposals for a permanent cease -the fires.
“From now on Israel will take action against Hamas with increasing military force,” said the Prime Minister's office.
In the meantime, a senior Hamas officer said that Israel had unilaterally destroyed the ceasefire agreement, indicating that the entire fighting could return soon.
And the group warned that the return of Israel to the war has imposed a 'death sentence' on the remaining hostages who were imprisoned in Gaza.
The strikes were by far the largest and deadliest since a truce came into force in January. Hamas has not responded to the strikes so far.

In the meantime, the US launched new air strikes on the Houthis in Yemen during the weekend as retribution for his attacks on shipping. At least 53 people were killed.
De Houthis said in response on Tuesday that they carried out their third attack on American warships in 48 hours, after American strikes on the rebels supported by Iran who have fueled mass protests in areas under their control.
The group claimed that they had fired rockets and drones on the USS Harry S. Truman and called it the 'Third in the last 48 hours' on the fleet in the Noord -Rode Sea.
But an American defense officer said that the Houthis 'continue to communicate lies and disinformation', adding the group supported by Iran is 'known for false claims that minimize the results of our attacks and exaggerate the successes of them'.
The American Air Force Lieutenant General Alexus Gynkich told reporters that it was “difficult to” confirm the attacks of the Houthis, because the rebels missed their goals “with more than 100 miles.”
Trump warned on Monday that Iran 'would experience the consequences' for further Houthi attacks, which are in danger of broadening the conflict.
