For more than 200 years, villagers in southern Poland have led a tribute to a sanctuary along the road that Jesus and the Virgin Mary depicts.
But now the locals are in their arms after a failed renovation of the 1820 sanctuary, the blessed mother has looked like a cartoon character 'Simpsons'.
Once described by experts such as 'Lang and Slim', the statue of the Virgin Mary now has oversized hands, exaggerated eyes and a skewed frown accentuated by bright red lipstick just outside the village of Stuszionka.
In the meantime, the figure of Jesus seems to wear gray underpants, and both figures have been repainted with an unnatural yellow hue.
The curator of Monuments posted a photo on Facebook and said: 'A fairly rare image of the Virgin Maria looks up.
“Another example of good intentions … Let's hope that this valuable object will receive professional preservation in the near future, because it deserves it very much.”
It added that the unknown restorer had also painted over the original German inscription of the sanctuary, to replace the markings 'VII 2024, JC 2', written in what seems to be a black marker.

Authorities confirmed that no permission had been granted for the recent recovery of the sanctuary
However, authorities confirmed that such permission was not granted for the recent changes.
The local population has now rejected their anger with the failure assignment, in which some describe it as 'desecration'.
Post on social media said an indignant viewer: “The times of the greatest barbarism and ignorance of spirit and reason have come.”
Another noticed: 'I would take a risk and inform the office of the public prosecutor about insulting religious feelings. Because this is nothing more than an example of desecrating an object of religious worship. '
“It looks more like Bart Simpson than the mother Mary,” said another.
Still others compared the failed job with the infamous recovery of a 120-year painting that was dubbed 'Monkey Christ'.
In 2012, Cecilia Giménez, 82, decided to touch the 'Ecce Homo' (see the man) Fresco in the sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Borja, North Spain.

Image shows the statue of Jesus before the changes were made

Users of Social Media have compared the images with characters from the Simpson cartoon show because of their yellow hues
Her brush work, however, completely destroyed the face of Jesus and transformed the painting into what the locals described as more as a hedgehog or hairy monkey than on Jesus.
MirosÅ‚aw Rymer, a spokesperson for the Silesian curator of Monuments, said about the Polish restoration failing: “We will now carry out an inspection to determine how much damage the monument has been caused.”
