A primary school has deleted its annual Easter celebration and service to 'respect various religious beliefs'.
The announcement has crashed in online reactions such as 'shameful' and 'Shamolic', with some for fear that Christmas celebrations will be canceled below.
Norwood Primary School in Eastleigh, Hants, sent a letter to parents and guardians who informed them that neither their Easter bonnet parade nor their Easter service will be held this year.
Chief teacher Stephanie Mander, who wrote the letter, explained that this is due to the 'respect for diversity' of the state school and its purpose to 'create a more inclusive atmosphere'.
She said that respect for various religious beliefs represented within the school was the reason behind the decision.
“By not having specific religious parties, we want to create a more inclusive atmosphere that honors and respects the beliefs of all our children and their families,” she said.
Norwood Primary School is a mixed primary school for students between 3 and 11 years old, and it has no religious beliefs.
Responding to the news online, asked a person: “Miss Manderer is also preparing to cancel Christmas?”

The letter from the main teacher was shared in a local Facebook group, in which someone noted: “I thought it was best to celebrate everything, not nothing.”
Another person said: 'I don't get it personally. It is an experience that is within walking distance of the school.
'Parents have always been given the option not to be present. The school has always been diverse and all accepts. '
Miss Mander said that the school intends to celebrate the Refugee Week in June.
She added: 'We understand that this change may be disappointing for some, especially those who have cherished these traditions over the years.
'We believe that this decision corresponds to our values of inclusiveness and respect for diversity.
'We are investigating alternative ways to celebrate the season in the coming years, which will be all children and reflect the rich cultural diversity of our community.
'We appreciate your understanding and support while we make this transition.
'If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to contact the school office.
“Thank you for your continuous support.”
The website of the school states: 'During the school year, important parties in the lives of our children and school community are marked and celebrated together.
'These include eID, Diwali, Christmas and Easter.
“At these times the school welcomes to members of the broader school community to lead meetings and learning activities with the children to share their beliefs with them.”
Norwood Primary School was assessed 'Goed' in a ofsted inspection in September 2024, except for the 'Results for Children and Students' category, which was assessed as improvement.
