BBC Radio 1 legend DJ Andy Peebles died at the age of 76 who asked a wave of tribute to the temporary worker.
Colleague radio presenter Mike Read shared the news this morning on X and said that he was 'destroyed' about the death of his 'Chum'.
Mr. Read stated: 'Destroyed to hear the news about our Chum Andy Peebles. He was about to participate in Heritage with us. We came together at Radio One. Knew his music and inside out.
'Hiss your bat and enjoy a long rest in the pavilion. We recently had lunch with DLT & Adrian Juste. Great innings. '
In the meantime, Friend and Radio Executive John Simons wrote: 'So sad to hear the news about Andy Peebles passing. I will miss our long conversations about football and soul music, of which he was much more knowledge. There will be a quiet storm in heaven tonight. Rip Andy. '
Fans have since gone to social media to also share their condolences.
One said: 'So, farewell Andy Peebles. Piccadilly Radio & BBC Radio 1. From those golden days when regular radio stations knew who their audience was. '
Another added: 'I have just heard the sad death of former Radio 1 DJ Andy Peebles. He was famous the last person who interviewed John Lennon for hours before he was shot in New York and was also an avid lover of soul music! Rip Andy! '

The late DJS career -height points are his interview with Beatles -star John Lennon and Yoko Ono, who broadcast 1980 on BBC Radio 1 -only two days before the Liverpudlian was murdered in the doorway of his home in New York.
Reflecting in an interview with CBS in 2020, Mr Poebles said: 'I don't think I was ever so nervous in my life and I grew up not only with him, but also the group and everything they had done … I felt like he was on top of everything. They seemed very happy. '
