The police would work urgently to accuse the main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, for fear that he could run free in just a few days, unless they act quickly.
Christian Brueckner, 48, is the most important suspect in the disappearance of three -year -old Madeleine McCann, who disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal in May 2007.
Brueckner, who is currently serving a prison sentence for the rape of an American woman in 2005 in the same Algarve resort, is looking for early release after less than half of his seven-year term.
Researchers kept his offer on release, especially after the shock ruling by Brueckner last year in a separate case with accusations of rape and sexual abuse in Portugal between 2000 and 2017.
With its release date in September, the police raced against the clock to set costs in the MCCANN case, because a new arrest warrant can ensure that Brueckner stays behind bars.
A source close to the investigation told the sun: 'Normally a movement would be laughed at his offer for an early release outside the court.
'But everyone is very nervous after what happened last year with his rape test. The court was surprisingly favorable for him.
'Brueckner's lawyers know that they should now go for this, in the event that an appeal against his acquittal is permitted. That will create a new arrest warrant and he will be stuck behind bars. '
Brueckner denies the charges against him.

A number of important witnesses have been called into private meetings, while public prosecutors are preparing for the possibility of accusing Brueckner of Madeleine's disappearance.
The researchers' step would be a final attempt to secure his continuous detention.
While a German court of Brueckner released from other rape costs in Portugal, his current sentence keeps him locked up.
However, the clock ticks that sense and if the court grants his release application before he was set for the McCann case, he would run free.
If Brueckner is released, authorities can submit an appeal and postpone his freedom. However, if the appeal fails, the only remaining option would be to reduce costs with regard to the disappearance of Madeleine.
That would enable prosecutors to issue a new arrest warrant, so that Brueckner may remain behind bars while continuing to build a business.
Although public prosecutors are still convinced that they have evidence to charge Brueckner, they remain careful.
Researchers have not yet confirmed public details of new physical evidence, although sources claim that they have strong indirect evidence.
However, his lawyers have indicated that their intention to fight new charges.
Brueckner, who was called the main suspect in the MCCANN case in 2020, was reportedly connected to the crime via a call to his mobile phone on the night that Madeleine disappeared.
The police are also investigating their connections with a white camper and a Jaguar XJ6 that is seen in the area at the time.
Authorities continue to work on the case, but the plans of the prosecutor depend on a coming statement about the early release of Brueckner.

If it is successful, it would postpone any indictment or the process with regard to the disappearance of Madeleine.
Three -year -old Madeleine was missing in the holiday apartment of her family in Praia da Luz in the Algarve region in Portugal in May 2007, while her parents dinner in a nearby tapas bar.
Despite an enormous international manjacht and global media, no trace of her was found, but investigations have continued in the 'Maddie' case, said public prosecutor Wolters.
“At the moment I can't say when we can investigate these and with what result,” he said.
The charges of which Brueckner was acquitted last October came as a result of investigation into the 'Maddie' case, according to public prosecutors.
In one of the cases, prosecutors had accused Brueckner of entering the holiday apartment of a woman between 70 and 80, tying her and beating her and sexually abusing her.
In another case, he was accused of entering the apartment of a young Irish woman through her balcony as she slept, threatened her with a knife and raped her several times.
He was also accused of exposing himself for a 10-year-old German girl on a beach and on an 11-year-old Portuguese girl in a playground.
But the defense aroused serious doubts about things against Brueckner, which were based on testimonies but no forensic evidence.
The Irish guide Hazel Behan earlier in the process gave a harrowing report of her test, reportedly in Brueckner's hands, on the Algarve.

Mrs Behan, 40, who waived her anonymity, said that she had returned to her flat in Praia da Roche in June 2004 in Portugal, after a row of her then friend when she was only 20.
She appeared in the court in May 2023 and described how she came to bed completely dressed and then fell asleep, only to wake up a little later when she heard her name be called.
Mrs Behan said: 'I thought it was my boyfriend who had come to apologize. After a short time I said to myself in my head: “He has no key, so how did he come in?”
'I had such a fear that I have never experienced and it felt like all the blood in my body was rising.
'I turned around and saw a man completely dressed in black to toe, with a knife and the first thing he did was put his knee in my back and a hand over my mouth.
“He pulled my head and said in English:” F *** ing shout or I will kill you “, so that's why I didn't. It was all very fast.
“He pulled my head back and said in English:” Don't look at me “, and then I smoke a fruity scent. I knew they were condoms, so I knew it would happen. '
Mrs. Behan, from Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland, added: “I had three children, but I have never felt such a pain and I felt it would take forever.”
But Mr. Fuelscher said in his last speech that his client was harmless to the attack.
