The sudden, tragic death of retired New York Yankees star Brett Gardner's 14-year-old son, Miller, continues to be astonished fans.
The Gardner family visited the $ 900-per night Arenas del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica when Miller unexpectedly died in his sleep. Provisional reports from Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) attributed death to 'suffocation as a result of intoxication related to food poisoning'.
Now, however, CNN has been told by the OIJ that Asphyxia is excluded because there was no obstruction of his airways.
Juan Pablo Alvarado, an official at the OIJ press office, told CNN that vomit was found on the body, suggesting that Ashyxia was a likely culprit.
The research is far from complete because the OIJ awaits the results of an autopsy and toxicological tests.
And then there remains the possibility of 'food poisoning', which is a term that has led to some confusion.

As explained by the USDA, it is more often known as 'food poisoning' and the diseases transferred by food is the result of eating food contaminated by harmful bacteria or other pathogens.
Food differences, on the other hand, is 'caused by eating food containing toxins released by pathogens', according to the USDA. The organization adds that: “pathogens themselves do not cause a disease.”
To illustrate this distinction, the USDA points to botulism, which is caused by botulinum toxins and not by bacteria that produce it.
And although some forms of food poisoning or food poisoning can be mild, there is also a risk of muscle paralysis and even respiratory failure.
Surely, Gardner and his wife Jessica said in announcing the death of their son that several other family members had fallen ill during the trip. Arenas del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort has responded to the requests of DailyMail.com to comment on a statement and writing: 'We are deeply saddened by this loss, and our hearts go to the family during this incredibly difficult time.
'The factors that have led to this tragic incident are unknown and we work completely with authorities while investigating.
“We are committed to supporting our guests and staff, giving priority to their well -being and safety, with respect for the privacy of the affected ones.”
The resort, located in the rainforest city of Manuel Antonio, has direct access to the beach, offers expert naturalistic guides and a 'stimulating, colorful and exciting' food menu, according to the website.
The website of Arenas del Mar insists that 'only the best ends on your plate' and 'yes, you only eat the freshest ingredients' in the resort, including the Playitas beach restaurant and Mirador Oceanview Restaurant.

The resort also uses a 'dock to dish' program for the fish that it serves for guests.
Gardner and his wife Jessica announced the terrible news at the weekend and explained that their son had become sick 'together with various other family members'.
The couple confirmed that Miller had died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21.
“With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the death of our youngest son, Miller,,” they said.
“He was 14 years old and left us far too quickly after he got sick, along with various other family members during the vacation.”
They continued: “We currently have so many questions and so few answers, but we do know that he died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed “the death of an American citizen in Costa Rica on March 21.”
The US Department of Foreign Affairs said to the New York Post: 'We are closely aware of the investigation of the local authorities into the cause of death.
“Out of respect for the privacy of the family and loved ones during this difficult time, we currently have no further comment.”
The family is said to work with local authorities to bring Miller's body back to the United States.
Gardner, 41, played 14 seasons with the Yankees between 2008 and 2021 and was part of their World Series-Winning Team 2009. He was an American competition All-Star in 2015 and won a Gold Glove in 2016.
The Yankees will start on Thursday the 2025 MLB season in Yankee Stadium against the Milwaukee Bewers.
