Anthony Albanese will call a federal election before 3 May on Friday morning.
It gives the prime minister and opposition leader Peter Dutton five weeks to win voters.
Early on Thursday, Mr. Albanese's office drew the trigger too fast when the Ministry of the Prime Minister and the cabinet broadcasted an official post of social media and claimed that the government was now in the 'caregiver' mode.
That only happens after the election has been called – and the PM is still 24 hours away from confirming the date.
The post on X was quickly removed after the blunder was seen.
During the media performances on Thursday, the Prime Minister remained vague in detail.
“It will be called Vrijal immediately, I can assure you about that,” he told Triple M Hobart.
“I don't call it today, but I'll call it soon. I think Australians want to continue.
“Certainly, my Caucus colleagues want to get that in the campaign.”
