A human placenta was found today in a busy Manchester Park.
The shocking discovery was made this afternoon by a member of the public in Oldham, Greater Manchester, who reported to find a 'suspicious item'.
Greater Manchester Police was called to the scene of the surprising discovery in Wernerth Park around 2.40 pm.
Medical reports later confirmed that the 'suspect' finding was indeed a human placenta.
It is thought that the baby was born in the last 24 hours, with the police now launching an urgent attraction to find the mother and the newborn baby.
An investigation has also begun.
Detective inspector Andy Day of the Oldham district said in a statement: 'These types of incidents are extremely rare, but will of course cause worries, and we share that concern.
'I want to make it clear that our research at this stage is not a criminal, but one in the well -being of a mother and baby.
'Medical experts have advised us that it is likely that birth has taken place in the last 24 hours, and it is possible that mum or baby have medical attention.

'We have several questions to try to identify who belongs to the placenta, including the search for various British databases and contacts with a number of partner agencies.
'I am an appeal to anyone who knows the identity of mum or baby, or even Mama herself, to come to us so that we can make sure that things are going well. I would also appeal to anyone who has seen something in the Wereth Park area for the past 24 hours, they think they can help our questions to contact us.
'Officers will stay in the area in the coming hours and will be there to listen to any concerns of the community. We appreciate the collaboration of those who live locally, because we understand the impact of closing the public spaces that are enjoyed in a weekend. '
