A family has been left with 'broken hearts' after a four -year -old boy was killed in an attack by three dogs.
The police of Nieuw -Zeeland said they were warned of two people in the bay of Plenty who were injured after they had been bitten by a dog on Friday at about 2.50 pm.
“One person was transported the Katikati Medical Center in a critical condition, where they unfortunately died shortly later,” said a spokesperson on Saturday.
“Another person was given moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital where they stay.”
The three dogs involved in the attack are reportedly surrendering to the Western Bay of Plenty District Council and the police are investigating on behalf of the coroner.
It is understood that it was the four-year-old Timothy Tu'uaki Rolleston-Bryan who died after the incident.
A family member, who did not want to be called, told Stuff.co.nz that the family was 'destroyed' by the death of Timothy.
“I don't know how the incident happened, but we were called to a medical center and then he died,” they said.

The family member said that the family had made statements to the police and officers had taken the dog in custody.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted a member of the family for comment.
The social media page for the cemetery of the family businesses, simple funerals, shared a statement from the Whānau.
“It's with broken hearts and shock, we announce the tragic passing on of our little Timoti,” said the family's post.
“He had a little disaster in his smile, a little wild in his eyes, but a heart full of cute.
'You will miss our little Timoti very much. Your (late) mother will wait for your arrival. '
Tuapiro Marae Komiti also shared a statement on social media.
“It is with great sadness that Tuapiro Marae acknowledges a recent death that took place on the When Tuapiro,” said it.
“Our thoughts and prayers are for everyone who is affected by the loss at the moment will be our priority to support our Whānau through this difficult time.”
