A picturesque city has offered potential new residents no less than $ 50,000 to withdraw.
Pawnee City, Nebraska, has announced the $ 50,000 deposit devices to incoming residents in an attempt to breathe new life into the decreasing rural community.
It may sound like a plot directly from the hit comedy 'Parks and Recreation', but this is not a television city.
The small town – located just over an hour southeast of Lincoln – launches an ambitious plan called Vision 2030 that promises to breathe new life into the community.
Once the home base of 1,300 inhabitants in the 1970s, Pawnee City has seen the population refuse to only 850 inhabitants.
But chairman of the Steve Glenn Economic Development Council takes everything out of the closet to attract new residents.
“What we really need is more people,” said Steve Glenn, the chairman of the Economic Development Council for the Pawnee City Chamber of Commerce to Nebraska Public Media.
“So let's attract those people who work from home and want to move their families to a great small city to live in, and give them a stimulus, a huge stimulus of $ 50,000 to do that.”

“We set up $ 50,000 per house in a deposit increase because that is one of the biggest obstacles for people,” he explained.
“You can imagine-that actually cuts a 30 percent discount on the costs of housing,” he added.
The investment of the city already includes 25 new houses in the pipeline, plans for extra affordable apartment complexes and a subsidy of $ 650,000 from the Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
“We think that housing is the secret sauce for small rural communities to grow, because people can work everywhere in the virtual workplace and they just have to decide on a quality of life,” he said.
But it is not just about attracting more residents – it is also about creating a sense of community in the small city.
“We try to create a national Renaissance-and that does you with the quality of life,” Glenn said.
“Big cities are a big blessing when you can go to a Broadway show or a great restaurant,” said Glenn.
“But we can take a lot of that stuff to a small city, to Pawnee City,” he added.
“The beauty of a small city is the quality of the lifestyle, and there is still a huge amount of value to grow up in a small city where there is responsibility,” he added.
'Your children are safe. These are really some of the basic principles of a quality of life. And so we think there is a great quality of life, and we just have to maintain it. '

The answer was immediately. Only a few days after the press release was published, 50 applications were received for just two houses
“We are blessed in Pawnee City to have a great school system, great hospital, great stores,” said Glenn. “What we need are just roofs and people and houses,” he added.
Only a few days after the details of the schedule were announced that Glenn said that 50 applications were received for just two houses.
Twenty -seven potential residents have already shown interest.
“They came in very quickly,” says Glenn. “We really didn't even start the advertisements or promotion with a RealTor® or something similar.”
“It has almost been a bit overwhelming,” Glenn added. 'People are often afraid of failing. You just have to jump with both feet. '

But it is not just about attracting more residents – it is also about creating a sense of community in the small city

“We are building a blueprint,” said Glenn. 'The entire key to rural America is housing. It's all about housing. '
“I heard someone say:” Who wants to come back to Pawnee City? “He added. “And I said:” We have to make it so that we turn off the welcome mat. It would surprise you how many people will come if we just say 'welcome'.
