Boxing Legend 'Money' Floyd Mayweather met his nickname when he gave guards at Selfridges a lush £ 2,000 tip during one of his extravagant editions in the London Department Store.
But the workers were left smoking after they were told that they would not see a cent – with bosses who decide that it should be transferred to charity instead.
“The guards are absolutely furious,” said a source. “It's just so unfair. This was a gift to keep it safe and the security is not paid much. Selfridges have effectively taken their money.
'The personal shoppers who helped Mayweather were allowed to keep their tips, which was £ 3,000 each. But bosses have decided that the guards have not allowed their money and it will be given to charity. Security has asked to see coupons of the chosen charity, but bosses refused to provide them. They then asked if they could at least choose the charity where it is going, and it sounds like that is not happening either. '
The guards work for a contractor, instead of being directly employed by Selfridges, and the source said they were too afraid of losing their job to kick themselves up.
“One of them was considering organizing a protest about it, but is afraid of his livelihood,” the source added.
Multi-billionaire Mayweather, who won world championships in five weight distributions, made the generous gesture when he visited three months ago.
Tips are traditionally held by the store until they are officially canceled and explained. It is unknown whether Mayweather, 48, is aware that his tips have been remembered from the security staff.

In 2023, Mayweather and his entourage spent four hours in the famous London store, with more than 40 bags of shopping
“When Mayweather comes in, he is treated like royalties, walk for hours in the workplace and get what he wants,” said the source. 'He spends around £ 200,000 every time he visits and they give him a 10 percent discount. Contracted guards are not even entitled to a discount. '
