Only one day before the singing legend – who turned 80 – discovered the tragic incident that he had made a moving promise to his then ex Lory who had custody of Conor after their split.
A day before Conor's death, Eric took him out for the first time – with the couple on his way to Nassau Coliseum on Long Island.

“When they returned to the apartment, with Conor Chattering excited about the clowns and elephants, Eric told Lory that from now on he was planning to be a real father.”
The next day Eric and his son were planning to visit the Bronx Zoo and bring Conor to an Italian restaurant, but unfortunately did not get the chance.

'It's a very personal matter, but I never met my father, and I realized it when I was with my son – I once came closest to my father's eyes when I looked into my son's eyes.
“So I wrote a song about that. It was a bit strange, as a strange cycle thing that came to mind and something that I felt I would like to share. '
He said paternity to daughter Ruth, now 40 – who was two years older than Conor and whose mother Yvonne Kelly is – helped him to handle his grief.
He said, “Yvonne knew that [being close to Ruth] Would help and it was true. I was able to hold a child again and to be kept by a child.
“Ruth has been a huge support. I had no idea how much strength a child could have on an adult life, how much it can give you to feel valid, unique and strong. '

Clapton married Melia Mcenery in 2002 and the few parts of daughters Julie, 23, Ella, 22, and Sophie, 19.

The musical legend isolated itself on the Caribbean island and threw himself in a desperate attempt to write songs to 'heal'.
Remembering of the complicated days after the death of Conor, Eric said: “I brought him home from New York with all the Italian side of his mother's family and we went through the funeral process.”
He explained that after the funeral he rented a house in Antigua, where he spent almost a year playing his guitar and hardly communicated with the outside world.
“When they left, I had this little Spanish string guitar, I got attached that I went to Antigua and I rented a small house in a community and I just hit mosquitoes all day and played this guitar and stayed there almost a whole year, without much contact with the outside world, and I tried to cure myself,” he said.
“The only thing I could do was play and write these songs and I wrote again and gave them again and again and again and again until I had the feeling that I had made some of my being and then I could come out.”
The rock guitarist had one Heartbreaking letter from Conor only a few hours after the child's funeral.

The young person had written His first letter to his father days before the accident and his mother Lory, it placed it on the house of Clapton in London – arrival after the child's death.
Lory said, “The baby had learned to write a few words and he said to me:” Oh Mama, I want to write a letter to Dad, what will I write? ” I said to him: “Well, write, I love you”. He wrote that and we placed it as a normal letter.
'After Conor died, Eric and I arrived in London for the funeral. I was there when Eric received his post just after the funeral and he opened him and it was Conor's letter. That is a time that I can't forget. '
Clapton dedicated his song tears in heaven to Conor. It won three Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male, Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
