An iconic tree that is known as the Jackson Magnolia that has shaded the South Portico of the White House for the majority of American presidencies will be removed this week due to concern about safety, Donald Trump said on Sunday.
For years, Prikers have been struggling to keep the morbid South Magnolia alive, whose striking figure marks a focal point point along the southern facade of the building.
The tree was planted by former President Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the US, to commemorate his wife, Rachel, who died just before his sworn in 1829.
It was reportedly brought a tree from his house to Tennessee.
The tree is near the curved porch on the south side of the building and is where foreign leaders are often welcomed for ceremonial visits, and where the president leaves to board the Navy One -Helicopter.
The tree at almost two centuries old is the oldest on the site of the White House, according to the National Park Service, which notes that most presidents started to install their own memorial trees from the 1870s.
“The bad news is that everything has to come to an end,” Trump wrote on his truth socially and explained that the Magnolia was “in terrible condition, a very dangerous safety risk, no less at the entrance of the White House and now has to be removed.”
Trump said that the historic Magnolia would be replaced by 'another, very beautiful tree' and that the wood would be stored 'and can be used for other high and noble purposes !!!'

The tree was pruned considerably in 2017, during Trump's first term.
It was also damaged in 1994 when a small Cessna aircraft crashed in the southern lawn and went into the White House.
Earlier this year, the gardens of the White House made the headlines when Trump said that he was planning to pave over the famous rose garden that overlooks the Oval Office, to give it the patio feeling of his Mar-A-Lago estate in Florida.
“The grass just doesn't work,” Trump told Fox News and added that it gets “so wet.”
During Trump's first term, First Lady Melania supervised a renovation of the rose garden, which controverses the traditional design of the legendary plot controversially.
Trump has long pronounced admiration for Jackson. Early in his first and second terms he showed the Portrait of Jackson in the Oval Office and visited Jackson's Plantage, the Hermitage, in 2017 to commemorate Jackson's 250th birthday.

During the visit, Trump Jackson praised as a champion of the common man who stood against an arrogant elite and pulled parallels between the Jackson era and modern times.
During his first term, the administration postponed the plan to replace Jackson's image on the $ 20 account with that of Harriet Tubman, a movement that critics attributed to Trump's respect for Jackson.
Moreover, Trump's political style and rhetoric are sometimes also compared to Jackson's populist approach.
Both leaders are known for their appeal to the “ordinary man” and challenging of political standards together with the reform of their respective political parties to reflect their personal ideologies.
