A direct descendant of William Wordsworth has talked about his grief that he should do the house of the poet for sale.
Christopher Wordsworth Andrew says that he and his brother Simon Bennie have made the decision to sell Rydal Mount, near Windermere in the Lake District, because they both live as working in the south of England.
The costs to maintain and open the house to the public has become unaffordable and the number of visitors has been deposited since Covid.
Rydal Mount and Gardens are looking for offers from more than two and a half million pounds.
The celebrated poet lived most of his life on Rydal Mount, from 1813 until his death in 1850.
It was the third and survivor of his three houses in the Lake District, the others were Dove Cottage and Allan Bank, both near Grasmere.
He has never owned Rydal Mount, instead rented from the Baron van Rydal, Sir Richard Le Fleming.
But he made the 16th century, degree I, stated at home with five hectares of land, a lot of himself. The gardens remain largely as they were designed by the poet.

When the Le Fleming family sold the real estate to pay off death tasks, it was bought in 1969 by Mary Henderson, the great-great-daughter of William Wordsworth.
When she died in 1992, she left it to her grandsons, Christopher, then only 18, and Simon.
“I don't even want to think about having to sell it,” said Christopher, now 51, “it's extremely sad.
“I came to Rydal eight or nine times a year, and every time I think” why don't I live here, “it's so beautiful.
“But the truth is that the whole family live south of Oxford,” Christopher said a financier in Wealth Management.
'It has become increasingly difficult to run from far. Because it is private ownership, if there are shortages, it comes out of our pockets and it has been very difficult since Covid. '
He says that the house used to have around 45,000 visitors a year and now has 20,000 or less.
The real estate and the grounds have lived in curators and have been open to the public and used for events. It remains open for the 2025 season.

It is also full of objects related to the Wordsworth family, including the chair in which the poet likes to sit in while putting his poems.
Christopher says that the content will be distributed among the wider family.
The building is marketed by Ashdown Jones in Windermere and is on Rightmove.

Rydal Mount is the only home with a view of both Lake Windermere and Rydal Water.
Access to the house is through a curved veranda before you step through the glazed front door to a wide corridor.
There are four reception rooms, seven bedrooms in the main building and two extra bedrooms in a separate attachment, which is currently being used as a successful holiday.
The formal dining room is filled with historical characteristics, including original beams and slate floors, as well as a handsome fireplace.

A spindle staircase leads to the top floor.
Halfway there is a landing that leads to an office space that can become another bedroom, a shower room and the large bedroom.
As soon as the bedroom of William and Mary Wordsworth, the room has a beautiful view of Lake Windermere and has a fireplace and a sink and a large four -post bed.
