The employee of Senator Cory Booker was arrested on Monday at the Capitol for wearing a gun.
The Democratic Hill employee, Kevin Batts, 59, is a special assistant from the Senator of New Jersey and retired law enforcement officer.
The American Capitol police said in a statement on Tuesday that their arrest of Batts was the day before to wear a firearm without a permit.
“All weapons are prohibited from Capitol Grounds, even if you are a retired law enforcement officer, or have a permit to wear in another state or the district or columbia,” USCP said in a statement.
According to Notus, the arrest took place on Monday around 6:30 pm. Batts was fascinated and placed in a USCP car outside the Capitol.
The arrest was made only a few minutes before Booker took the Senate floor to start a marathon overnight, which is still ongoing.

USCP described the incident that led to his arrest in a statement obtained by DailyMail.com.
“Yesterday afternoon, a member of the congress led an Idded employee on security survey in the Hart Senate Office building,” the explanation recalls the series of events. “Later that evening, outside the Galleries of the Senate, the IDED assistant – who is a retired law enforcement officer – told our officers that he was armed.”
“The staff member, the 59-year-old Kevin A. Batts from New Jersey, was arrested for wearing a gun without a license.”
