Iran's army has called for preventive strikes on an army based on the British-controlled Chagos Islands in an attempt to prevent the US from using it.
The Chagos Islands, which must be transferred to Mauritius, are the home of the military base of Diego Garcia that houses American and British assets.
A senior Iranian military officer said De Telegraaf that military commanders were asked to focus the British basis in an attempt to prevent Donald Trump from attacking Iran.
He said, “Top commanders are encouraged to launch preventive strikes on the island and the base if Trump's threats have become more serious.”
He added: “Discussions about the island have been intensified since the Americans have started bombers there.”
He added that the rockets may not necessarily touch the basis themselves, but would act as a warning for America.
“Some suggest that rockets are fired at the island, not with the intention of touching something, but to fall into the water to send a clear message to the Americans that we are serious,” said the civil servant.

In response, the Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Qalibaf said on Friday: “If the Americans attack the holiness of Iran, the entire region will blow up like a spark in a ammunition dump.”
