Millions of mobile phone and broadband users facing bill hike today – find out how much YOURS will increase with our handy calculator

Millions of mobile phone and broadband customers will see their bills increase from today thanks to mid-contract price increases when 'terrible April' starts.

A typical household in Great Britain will lose an estimated £ 80 a year thanks to the rising prices in their contracts that will come into effect this month.

Some mobile and broadband customers will rise in accordance with inflation, while others can be confronted with permanent walks, depending on when they have registered or upgraded.

Large providers such as BT, Virgin, Talkentalk, EE and three increase prices with customers every year who can check the increase in a new tool of money-saving tool Nous.co.

The scale of the increase depends on when contracts were removed, the level of monthly accounts and the company's policy.

New rules mean that those who have concluded contracts in recent months will increase the bills with a fixed amount, are explained in pounds and Pence in their original contract.

As a result of the policy set by Regulator ofcom, some customers with cheaper accounts will ultimately pay much more than under the previous system.

Those with older and more expensive contracts will see the steepest rises.

For example, a BT -wide band customer that held a contract after 10 April 2024 will increase their accounts with a fixed rate of £ 36 per year.

But a Virgin Media customer with a typical broadband account of £ 45 per month, who took out their contract before January 9, 2025, will see their accounts rise by £ 48.

This is because older contracts are still subject to the price increases linked in inflation.

Virgin Media also uses the controversial retail price index (RPI) measure for inflation – which is higher than the level of consumer prices (CPI) – to calculate price increases.

Domestic financial expert Greg Marsh, Chief Executive of Nous.co, said MailOnline: 'Broadband and mobile companies take us for a ride – we saddle us with cynical and unfair price increases for another year.

'Most major suppliers glide these price increases in contracts and then charge offset costs for customers who want to leave. Inflation linked increases are at least banned in the future, but the rules do not apply to older contracts

'And for people with cheaper deals, their bills will actually increase much more than they would have under the old system. It is clearly not fair.

'Navigating through these confusing and sneaky prices is difficult, stressful and time -consuming. No wonder so many of us let things slide. '

It is because households are confronted with the over-the-line increases of their accounts while 'terrible April' comes into effect.

Research by Nous showed that a typical household will be £ 450.75 worse off as a result of energy, water, municipal tax, mobile, broadband and entertainment subscriptions that all go up on the same day.

In the meantime, USWitch said that for those with inflation-linked contracts, broadband prices will rise annually by an average of £ 21.99, with some newer plans that see an increase of a maximum of £ 42 per year.

Mobile users are confronted with similar increases, with an average increase of £ 15.90 for inflation-linked contracts and up to £ 48 for newer deals.

Broadband customers must check their contract status to see if it is possible to switch without going on a fine.

Switching to a new broadband deal after the first contract has been terminated can save up to £ 180 per year.

Vodafone, Virgin Media and Community Fiber are some of the providers who freeze prices until 2026 for those who switch before the rise of April.

Mobile customers can text information to 85075 to check the status of their contract and any exit costs, or consider reducing their data plan to save money.
