The Aussie beef industry was shocked on Thursday morning when US President Donald Trump said that he would forbid the import of Australian beef.
Those fears soon faded when it was announced Australian beef, the largest export from Australia to the US, would be beaten by a mutual rate of 10 percent.
The Mutooroo Pastoral Company director James Morgan said it could have been worse.
“If it was a ban, this discussion would be much more serious and there would be many disappointed and angry people,” he told Daily Mail Australia.
Although the news of the rate was still disappointing, the industrial figures said that American consumers would be harder to be affected than Australian beef farmers, given that an American drought makes it difficult to produce enough lean, grass -fed beef.
Red Meat Advisory Council Independent chairman John McKillop also heard news about the ban and was relieved to hear that it was not true.
“My first reaction was a bit of a heartbeat when he pulled beef over any other industry in another country,” said McKillop.
“What we need are our politicians to go to the US and try to have that rate of 10 percent removed and that should happen as quickly as possible.”

Mr. McKillop said that the litter feast rate, which came into force on Thursday at 3 p.m., indicated that America “simply will not be seen as a reliable trading partner.”
“It's disappointing if you think you have a friend with whom you have exchanged for 20 years for free and they turn around and do this,” said Mr. McKillop.
In 2024 the US imported a record of 400,000 tonnes of Australian beef.
McKillop claimed that the rates would harm Americans in the long term, since the US is in drought and is only able to produce inferior, grain -fed beef, which is a lot of greasy.
“The only person who will lose from this is the American consumer who will pay more for their product,” he said.
Grass -fed beef made 96 percent of Australia cattle export to the US in 2024, and this slimmer product is needed to make hamburgers.
“While the US is our largest beef market, it is mainly what is going in,” said Mr. McKillop.
'They take our meager frozen finish and mix it with their fresh oily upholstery to make their beef speeches for their beloved hamburgers.

“No other country is able to deliver the Lean Trim that is Australia, so that they continue to import it and the rate of 10 percent will be passed on to the American consumer.”
McKillop also predicted that the rates would probably be the catalyst for Australia to try to set up a trade agreement with the European Union (EU).
In 2023, a free trade agreement between Australia and the EU collapsed after Australia claimed that the EU had not offered an Aussie exporters of beef, sheep, dairy and sugar.
NSW Farmers Association Trade Committee Chairman John Lowe agreed and said that Australia's beef trade relationship with the EU could be back.
“I hear about the grapevine that the EU is interesting to talk to us again,” he said.
'Being able to have another discussion is probably very useful. Most of our exporters are not fools. They know this is planned for a while. '
Trade Minister Don Farrell said that Trump's rates on Europe can take them back to the negotiating table with Australia.
“The world has changed from today,” said Mr. Farrell.

“If they are (EU) wise, they will make a better offer on the issues that reduce the (trade) agreement last time, and we will have a free trade agreement with the EU, the largest economy in the world.”
Trump also stated that Australia had forbidden the American beef whose Mr. McKillop said it was not true.
“The only thing we ask is that they obey biostheedheid protocols, which means that they have to give us traceability of where that animal was born, raised and sex,” he said.
“They don't want to satisfy, and they refuse to implement a traceability system, so that no beef comes in.”
Mr Lowe warned that the beef stain rate should not jeopardize the biosafety attitude of Australia.
“One thing that is important, agricultural, is that we do not equip our precautions in the biosafety in Australia for a short profit,” he said.
'Our bio -safety is far too important. We must reinforce it, not reduce. '
Mr Lowe claimed that Aussie -Boeren had more urgent problems to worry about than Trump's rates.
“Larger factors that influence us are the dry times in the south and the floods in the north,” he said.
“But if you have grass and you have cattle, I wouldn't panic too much.”
