An older woman believed that she was possessed by spirits when she saw her arm moving automatically before doctors discovered that they were actually suffering from an extremely rare condition.

A 77-year-old woman watched TV in her house when she suddenly noticed that her left hand was stroking her face and her will.

She tried to control the left hand with her right, but continued to fail – so she would see one of her hands moving for 30 minutes.

According to the case report, her husband hurried her to the hospital and noticed that she dragged her left leg while walking.

Suspect that there can be a problem with the brain of the older woman, doctors in the hospital asked her to undergo a CT and MRI scan.

The scans showed 'acute infarctions in both parietal lobes' of her brain – also known as strokes in the part of the brain behind the frontal lobe.

A parietal lobbattle is caused by an interruption of blood flow to that part of the brain and can lead to a loss of movements, language, lecture, behavioral changes and visual disruptions.

While the older woman gradually got normal control over the left for six hours, doctors concluded that they were suffering from the Alien Hand Syndrome.

Alien Hand Syndrome (AHS) sound like something from a sci-fi film, is a condition where the hand or hands of a person are not under his control and only move.

Also referred to as Dr. Strangelove syndrome, the patients see their hand, often the left, exercise and performing actions without being aware.

Because of the independent movements, patients often feel that their hand is being controlled by another person and are disconnected from the body part.

The person also has no sensation in his hand and cannot feel anything that touches the hand.

Doctors from Texas wrote about the Case Study 2014: 'Alien Hand Syndrome, or Dr. Strangelove Syndrome, is an interesting situation in which a person loses control of his or her hand, who starts acting independently.

'The extraterrestrial hand can grab things and the person may have to use the other limb to release its objects. Extremes stated that the alien hand even suffocates the patient. '

Doctors believe that the AHS of the nameless woman could have been caused by a stroke in the parietal lobes after she stopped taking her blood clot medication pending spinal surgery.

They also noted that the development of AHS as a result of a stroke is extremely rare, but can be frightening for patients.

Moreover, the case Study stated that the extremely short duration of extraterrestrial hand (30 minutes) in the case of the woman it has made the shortest reported duration of this phenomenon ever made.

According to the doctors, the situation has been reported that the condition lasts a few days to a few days.

Experts also performed an ultrasound of her heart to see and control its structure for blood clots.

Her results suggested that she had no problems with her heart and her blood vessels were free from clots.

It remains unclear whether the doctors have performed other tests to diagnose the syndrome and there are no specific tests to diagnose AHS.

While the older woman recovers full control over the left side of her body for the next six hours, she noticed that her left upper limb was numb and somewhat weak.

Doctors instructed her to restart her blood clot medication and she was sent home without further symptoms or complications.

AHS can happen with various underlying conditions or trauma, as well as after some types of brain surgery and there is no treatment for it.

Because of the rarity it remains unknown how many Americans suffer from AHS, an assessment in 2013 only found 150 cases in the medical journals.
