The shocking moment that a carefree thief saw cables at a charging station for electric vehicle was caught on CCTV.

The man, who has not been identified, cut the thick cables at the EV Charging Hub in Decathlon Gallagher Retail Park, Wednesday, just after 8 p.m. on 12 March, causing death to be due to electrocution.

Dramatic images show the criminals who have a bold hacking before they drag them out of sight of the camera.

At one point, while he saw away, the man looks up to discover that he is being filmed by a CCTV camera above his head, leaving a worried expression on his uncovered face.

He constantly looks around him to check if nobody looks at his crime, but wore nothing but a baseball cap to hide his identity.

Since the theft took place, National Electric Vehicle Charging Network has set up Wanted 'Posters in the area in an attempt to catch the thief.

The poster shows a screenshot of the robber's face while he realized that he was being filmed, and is entitled “Wanted: Do you know this man?”

A description on the poster is: “The stupidity of this criminal in stealing copper cables worth £ 15 each or less means that drivers cannot charge their EVs and his actions risk serious damage caused by electrocution.”

At the bottom of the poster, people are encouraged to contact the West Midlands police with information.

The cables cost thousands for Be.EV to replace, even though they are only worth around £ 15 as scrap.

EV -theft is a huge problem for the industry, which cost thousands of pounds every year.

Experts warned that thieves behind the copper are in cables in fast and ultra-rapid charger sites, in a wave of crime that goes back to November 2023.

It seems that thieves cut charging cables to strip and sell the copper wiring to illegal scrap traders, or in places such as Facebook Marketplace and Ebay.

But although the price of copper may be tempting, the cable wiring is not worth as much as vandals would imagine.

Last month, the largest and 'most advanced' electric vehicle (EV) officially opened its doors in Hampshire in Great Britain.

The Instavolt Superhub, located near the A34 and Junction 9 of the M3, has 44 charging points that promise that you will have to go back to full capacity in just 20 minutes.

Despite the concern about the decreasing demand for environmentally friendly vehicles, the huge facility is to offer 'leading' reliability, according to the CEO of Instavolt Delvin Lane.

In fact, a car such as the KIA EV6 or Polestar 3 can go from 10 percent to 80 percent battery capacity in just 20 minutes.

The Chargers cost users 85p per kilowatt – compared to between 10 p and 15p that it costs to charge at home.

With falling rates that fall to a more affordable 54p per kWh from 9 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The station will also have a solar farm and advanced battery storage system, with 870 solar panels that use renewable energy to power the chargers.

A 4MWH battery storage unit ensures maximum efficiency, while a mix of solar energy, battery storage and grid power keeps the chargers on optimum capacity.

MailOnline has contacted the West Midlands police for comment.
