The deepest lake in America will soon be close to visitors until 2027 for maintenance work, which means that there is only a short window left to enjoy it.

Crater Lake National Park in Oregon attracts more than 500,000 tourists every year, with the 592-meter deep lake the crown jewel of the picturesque location.

Day trippers can enjoy diving from a nearby 11 -meter cliff in the clear blue depths of the Waterweg, which is located in the blown Caldera of a once powerful volcano known as Mount Mazama.

Surrounded by the Cascade Mountains, the cool Azure surface of the lake is interrupted by two land masses – Wizard Island and the Phantom Ship Natural Rock Pillar – that people can explore.

The home base of high numbers of Kokanee Salmon and Regenboogforel, the large lagoon is also the perfect place for fishermen and fern lovers.

Over the years, millions of people have troden the winding Cove Trail Cove Trail, a short steep path that offers the only route to the coastline.

But from this summer the path will be closed for two years for rehabilitation work, the National Park Service has announced.

“This project proposes to rehabilitate the path and the corresponding infrastructure to guarantee safe access to the lake, to offer the required visitor services and to protect the environment,” said the NPs in a statement.

The project includes the rehabilitation of the entire 1.1-mile Cleetwood Cove Trail 'including improvements to trail parties and retaining walls'.

NPS crews will also identify risky zones for Rockfall and restructuring where necessary.

The mammoth task also includes the removal of the deteriorating dock and replacing it with a 'structurally stable marina'.

NPS censuses added that the old, small toilet block close to the marina will also be replaced by larger, modern toilets.

The project is planning to prevent accidents in the lake. In 2019, a 28-year-old man from Florida stumbled and fell 245 meters into the water.

Tyler Johns, a welder from Bronson, miraculously survived after losing his foot while walking.

“We went to Crater Lake to sight-see and I stepped on a snow bank that I thought was soft,” Johns told DailyMail.com at the time.

'I jumped a bit in a snowbank and thought it was soft and then I bounced and then started sliding down on my back to the right along the dike.

“I slid for all 800 feet, turned around and was stopped and had some bumps on my head, tear on my arm, bruised ribs.”

Johns said he was 'painful' everywhere and 'beaten up' while his boots filled with snow.

He tried to climb up again, but he could not come back to the top because the rock wall became too pure to scale up.

'I started climbing up again, 150 feet up again, [but I] Couldn't get any further because there were no trees or nothing to pick up, “he told DailyMail.com.

After about seven hours, rescuers Johns and aviation found him in safety.

During more peaceful visits to the lake, some happy tourists were able to witness the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, which scammed lake.

The natural phenomenon glowed pink over the water and the surrounding mountains in May 2024, creating a beautiful view in a rare appearance for the area.

“The park is planning to start construction in 2026,” the NPS said in a statement about the rehabilitation project.

'Due to the extent that work to complete and short construction seasons, trail closures will be required and will be expected during the duration of the summer seasons 2027 and 2028.

'During this time, no boat trips will be provided and the path is closed due to the construction and rockfall dangers.

“If construction goes as planned, the renovated trail will be reopened in the summer of 2029.”
