India abstains from vote on Ukraine at UN General Assembly | India News – Times of India
UNITED NATIONS: India has abstained from voting at the UN General Assembly on a resolution demanding that Russia immediately counter her aggression Ukraine and urgently withdraw its military and other unauthorized personnel from Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant.
The 193-member UN General Assembly adopted the resolution on Thursday by 99 votes to nine, with 60 abstentions, including India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Egypt, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Voters against the resolution included Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, Russia and Syria.
The resolution demanded that Russia “unconditionally withdraw all its military forces from Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.” It also demanded that Russia immediately return the Zaporizhia power plant to the full control of Ukraine’s sovereign and competent authorities to ensure its safety and security. It called for the “immediate cessation of attacks” by Russia on Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure.
