‘India best bet of 21st century’: PM Modi opens 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s meet in Gujarat | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the fourth Global Renewable energy Investor meeting (REINVEST 2024) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on Monday and said the world knows that India is the best choice in the 21st century.
“The world knows that India is the best bet in the 21st century,” PM Modi said at the expo, held at Mahatma Mandir, which showcased contributions from the public and private sectors, state governments and start-ups. “During his earlier visit, then US President Barack Obama had asked if we are under pressure to achieve goals. I had replied that ‘This is Modi. And the only pressure I feel is from the future generation that is not even born yet.’ I am working for the next generation.”
Prime Minister Modi praised the efforts of the Gujarat government and said, “Gujarat is the state which started the first solar policy in India. We have set up one of the first climate change departments. Gujarat has already installed solar power plants, while elsewhere solar power was only being talked about.”
“Mahatma Gandhi led a life of minimal carbon footprint. He had said that resources are sufficient to meet our needs but not our greed. His vision is born out of India’s great history. Net zero is not a fancy word for us, it is India’s need and commitment. It is the commitment of every state,” he added.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi were also present at the meeting along with Prime Minister Modi.
The main objective of the exhibition was to create networking opportunities through a B2B digital platform for business-to-business (B2B), business-to-government (B2G) and government-to-government (G2G) interactions. This year’s industry partner is the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
The main theme of the event is Mission 500 GW, which focuses on India’s goal of expanding renewable energy capacity by 2030. Currently, India is the fourth largest country in terms of installed renewable energy capacity.
International partners include Australia, Denmark, Germany and Norway. Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh are also among the participants.
The conference will feature 44 sessions, including a Prime Minister’s plenary, a CEO roundtable and discussions on renewable energy innovations. Special sessions will address the role of women in energy transitions and provide a platform for start-ups, including pitches from the ten winners of the Solar X Challenge.
The first RE-INVEST event was held in February 2015 in New Delhi, followed by editions in October 2018 in Delhi NCR and a virtual edition in November 2020.

PM Modi also interacted with beneficiaries of the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijlee Yojna’ scheme in Gandhinagar. The scheme, launched on February 29, aims to increase the capacity of rooftop solar panels and enable households to generate their own electricity. A subsidy covers 60% of the cost for systems up to 2 kW and 40% for systems between 2 and 3 kW. The PM spent 20 minutes at the residential complex.
Later, Prime Minister Modi will officially inaugurate the fourth Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST 2024), which will feature nearly 40 sessions, including a plenary meeting of the Chief Minister and a roundtable discussion with CEOs.
