India is committed to the extradition of Khalistan terrorist Dalla | India News – Times of India
Dalla, apparently an aide to the slain Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjaris among the 27 people whose extradition was requested by India. Ottawa has blamed Indian government agents for Nijjar’s killing.
Canada’s CTV News reported Wednesday that Indian-designated terrorist Dalla had been arrested and charged along with an associate in connection with a recent shooting in Ontario. He is said to be awaiting a bail hearing. “In view of the recent arrest, our agencies will act on an extradition request,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
Canada has rejected India’s July 2023 request to arrest Dalla, MEA says
Given Arsh Dalla’s criminal record in India and his involvement in similar illegal activities in Canada, it is expected that he will be extradited or deported to face justice in India,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, taking into account with media reports circulating since November 10. about Dallas’ arrest in Canada.
Canadian newspapers and television media extensively reported the arrest and the Ontario court also entered the case for hearing. The Canadian government had earlier refused to comply with India’s request for his arrest.
India has repeatedly stated that the main problem with Canada is the impunity of Khalistan separatists who target Indian interests. The official said Dalla is a declared perpetrator in more than 50 cases of murder, attempted murder, extortion and terrorist acts, including financing of terrorism.
“A red corner complaint was issued against him in May 2022. Dalla was designated as an individual terrorist in India in 2023. In July 2023, the Indian government had requested the Canadian government for his provisional arrest. This was refused. Additional information was provided in this case,” he said.
According to MEA, a separate request has also been sent to Canada Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance (MLAT) to verify Dalla’s alleged residential address, his financial transactions to India, movable/immovable properties, mobile number details, etc. – all of which were provided to Canadian authorities in January 2023.
“In December 2023, the Department of Justice of Canada sought additional information about the case. A response to these queries was sent in March this year,” Jaiswal said. India had requested Dalla’s extradition on January 23.
